Today the residents of the province of Alberta all received a cheque for $400.00/person, children included, from the provincial government, because there was a surplus of funds, and the premier decided that the residents should benefit from some of it. People are literally going nuts over what to buy with this money! I of course have it earmarked for some clothing when I'm on my business trip to California next week! It's amazing that the government is actually thinking of the people for a change. All I can say is thank goodness for the oil industry here!!!

Re: Can You Believe This?
Got my cheque last week...it be true.
Alberta is, by far, the best province to be living in in Canada right now. I work in the oil and gas industry and the money here is unbelievable. Couple that with the fact that Canada is the best country to live in in the world and I'm not moving anywhere anytime soon!!!40/f

Re: Can You Believe This?
When I lived in Alaska, every citizen got a check back from the state every year. It's called the "Permanent Fund", which is funded by royalties from the oil businesses. It's very cool. No State Income Tax, no State Sales Tax... and yet you get money back!! I think the last one I got was for something like $1500. Now I'm wondering why I ever left!
Enjoy that money!! Have fun!

Re: Can You Believe This?
Hey Discolemonade, I like the new pics btw, your friends may have just called it their dividend check, that's what a lot of people called it. Anyway, I just did a google search and see that it's dropped a bit. Last years was only $850 something..
Here's a weblink to it: http://www.pfd.state.ak.us/
It was great!!! I got it for a couple of years. I liked the Wasilla area and the view of Denali from along the highway. I lived in Anchorage and worked in Prudhoe Bay. So, it was kinda cool... I got paid by the oil companies, then I got a check from the state for how much oil we sent down the pipeline to Valdez. Cool,eh?
