  • Zoe got scratched in the eye!

Okay, so my stupid (used to be - kindof still is) feral cat scrathed my puppy's eye last night (at midnight) so I decided to take her to the 24 hour emergency vet. The cat gouged her eye and it looked pretty bad to me.

LUCKILY, after being there for over a hour, the vet said that it was a "minor" scratch and she was going to survive!

Poor baby has been squinting and there was a little bit of green pus coming out (when I checked on her on my lunch). I have to give her antibacterial drops (which she of course loves) but she's still squinting pretty badly. I'm going to need to get the eye checked again on Sat.

    Argh, stupid cat!

    I hope her eye recovers!!!

Thanks goodness for 24 hour emergency pet hospital workers!!!!!!!!

Ouch! I've scratched my eye and man does it hurt. Luckily the eye doctor told me that the eye is the fastest healing part of the body! Hope it gets better soon. Poor baby!

I'm glad its only a minor scratch, and I'm sure she will be back to full strength soon.

Thanks for the concern guys! She's doing better although that eye is cloudy while the other one is clear....I've been giving her the antibacterial drops (which she hates! I didn't know a 3 lb dog could fight with such strength ; )

I'M taking her to her normal vet tomorrow to get it checked again. They dilate the eye and use a special light to look into the eye.

I think she'll be okay. I've have to completely separate her from the cat.

Do you wrap her in a towel when you give her the drops? Swaddle her up and it'll be much easier. This works great with a cat too.
I hope she gets better soon!!

Are you sure it wasn't left over dye used to see if there was a scratch on the lens?

Re: Zoe got scratched in the eye!

Hmmm...no, I don't think it was leftover dye...it looked like infected pus....

Moochie - I tried the towel thing but she is the best squirmer EVER!

I took her to the vet on Sat. and asked the vet to show me the best way to put the drops in. He grabbed the scruff on the top of her head and the ear above the hurt eye, tilted her head back enough that her eye stayed open and dropped several drops into her eye. It looked so easy, so I tried it when I got home and IT WORKED! She wasn't traumatized and it was quick and easy! I was so relieved because I have to do this 3 times a day for another 6 days.
Her eye IS getting better but he said there would be permenent damage to the cornea ; ( but that she probably didn't lose visibility.

                  So that's good and bad news....but she'll live ; )
