    Why, DANDR of course

(Other than that, I like humour titles. My 2 favourites from recent years are by the same author - Tony Hawks. A British comedian.)

    *Playing the Moldovans at tennis
    * Around Ireland with a fridge.

      Re: Your favourite book?

There are way too many books I love to pick out one favorite. To name a few:

T.C. Boyle - The Tortilla Curtain (anything by T.C. Boyle).
William Least Heat Moon - Blue Highways
Lawrence Sutin - Divine Invasions - A biography of Philip k. Dick,
      Stanislaw Lem - Star Diaries
      Stephen King - On Writing
Ray Bradbury - Zen in the Art of Writing

      .. and many many more...

I love the humorous and witty travel reports by Bill Bryson, and the Harry Bosch novels by Michael Connelly, in particular Black Echo. The novels by Kathy Reichs featuring Tempé Brennan. And everything Shakespeare...

If you like that, you must read "playing the moldovans at tennis". same guy same idea, just as funny.

Going back to your list of books, I started reading Bill Bryson's "down under" last year before I went to Oz, but never got to finish it.

Wannabe, I love that book too! When I first read it, I thought Edith Carr and Mrs. Comstock were outrageously fictional---until I met more than one of their real-life counterparts.

Anyway, I have plenty of favorite books because I love reading. Here are a few:

                "The Scarlet Pimpernel" series
                "Anne of Green Gables" series
                "The Stephanie Plum" series
The Archangel series by Sharon Shinn
"Tenant of Wildefell Hall" by Anne Bronte
"The Far Country" by Nevil Shute
"East of Eden" by John Steinbeck

I'm a big Mary Higgins Clark fan and also a Patricia Cornwell fan. Their books are great! I am anxiously awaiting for Patricia Cornwell's "Predator" to come out in paperback.

                      Love books!

Homer's Illiad & Odyssey. If translated, I prefer Stanley Lombardo's.
Vergil's (or Virgil's) The Aeneid. If translated, I prefer Robert Fitzgerald's.
Apuleius' The Golden ***. If translated, I prefer Robert Graves'.

I also enjoyed reading the Harry Potter series. The Latin version of the first book was really good. The Greek version had quite a few errors in it that was annoying.

                      Richard Adams, Watership Down.
                      Henry Fielding, Joseph Andrews
Jane Austin series of books such as Pride & Prejudice, Emma, Sense & Sensibility, Persuasion

I could go on and on an on!!

                        Re: Your favourite book?

All of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon

I also enjoy "comfort mysteries" and have read all of Diane Mott Davidson's culinary mysteries, all of Susan Conant's Dog Lover mysteries.

A huge fan of the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey

Also love the Eyre Affair series by Jasper Fforde

                        Lord of the Rings

                        Chronicles of Narnia

The Other Boleyn Girl and The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory

Harry Potter (we are planning to read/translate the Latin versions when dd gets to high school Latin level, but that's 5-6 years down the road!)

All by James Herriot (All Creatures Great and Small, etc.)

Eragon by Christoper Paolini (I haven't read Eldest, though. Dd is holding it hostage in her room!)

I've read and enjoyed most of Patricia Cornwell's Kay Scarpetta series, but haven't read Trace or Predator yet.

And, finally, one of my favorite of all time: The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley (which is NOTHING at all like that awful mini-series they made several years ago - ER's Nurse Hathaway as an 11-year old maiden. Um, NO!)
