LEAWOOD, Kan. -- There was a close call for a 12-year-old dog after her leash was caught in an elevator door over the weekend.

Barbara Abernethy and her shih tzu, Missy, took the elevator Saturday down to the first floor to head outside for a walk.

But Missy darted from the elevator. The doors closed with Abernethy still inside, holding one end of an extended leash that acted like a noose for Missy.

"And she ran out, and before I could get out, someone on the third floor pushed the button and I went back up," Abernethy told KMBC's Bev Chapman

The whole story and a video (cute little dog!)

I can't believe that with all of the animal lovers we have on this board no one had a comment on this poor little doggies ordeal!

I'm a little confused. Someone pushed the button on the third floor to send the elevator back on purpose so the dog wouldn't get hung?

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Embrace all equally!
