Man goes broke over Star Trek home

A Star Trek fan has gone bankrupt after spending £12,000 turning his home into the Starship Voyager.

Tony Alleyne's flat in Hinckley, Leics, has moulded walls, touch-panel blue lighting and a life-size model of the show's transporter room.

He even built a command console, reshaped windows to look like portholes and set up vertical lights so he can pretend to be "beamed up".

He hoped his pad would tempt other Trekkies to pay him to convert their homes too.

He took out two huge loans and ran up debts of over £100,000 on 14 credit cards marketing his idea and paying for the merchandise and has filed for bankruptcy.

Tony, who split from his wife Georgina after he replaced their fridge with a "warp coil" said: "I was convinced Trekkies all over the world would want a house like mine and pay me to do it.

"But I was wrong and just overstretched. Building it in my apartment was the enjoyable and easy bit. But then I got hooked up with marketing and merchandise people here and in America and it all got out of hand.

"I'm still proud of what I created but it's been a financial disaster."

Re: Man goes broke over Star Trek home

I saw this story somewhere and yes, there was a picture, and yes, it did look totally like a starship!!
He just forgot the fact that most Trekkies are nerds that live in their parent's basements and can't afford that sort of thing! (lol..sorry, Trekkies!!)

Oh hey...has anyone seen the movie "Trekkies"? Holy moly...it's just hilarious!

(I'm a big Star Trek fan myself, so it's ok that I make fun of this)

Re: Man goes broke over Star Trek home

Um...Whoa! Maybe this guy should go into movie set design or something...it looks really cool...but in your house?! That's a bit extreme.

You gotta hand it to the guy for "living his dream" though (hee heee)

But did you catch that he was blaming his being broke on AMERICANS!!!!!

What the heck! Why do the Americans always get blamed?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HE is the one who made the decision to turn his house into the Enterprise, but the AMERICANS get blamed?

Again, I say, what the heck?!!!

Yea, what's up with that! He's blaming the Americans cause no one was stupid enough to pay him to do that to their house...WTF?

Anyway it is pretty cool looking! But like you said, in your house? I don't think I'd want to live there, but he did do a really cool job! did you see him in his trekki uniform...hello, do you think he is just a teensey bit NUTSO!??? LOL

Oh my! You know it's people like him who generally keep us "normal Trekkers" from admitting our passion in public!

Love Classic Trek, love TNG, love DS9, love Voyager, but the majority of my life does NOT involve Trek (now Stargate SG-1 might be a whole other topic ).

Yea, i had a date take me to a Trekkie convention once, now that was STRANGE! He was a radio DJ so he had free tickets.

I like the original Star Trek o.k., but I really don't understand the obsession!
