Hey everyone,
I have a group of friends (all from a single's Bible study) and I would love to be able to share with them some great and true (tired of the movies) love stories. I know we've have a thread where people say how they met and I want this thread to be something like that, but put some emotion into and inspire those of us who are still single to wait for the right man or woman to come along. I don't have one of my own yet, but I'll start by sharing my grandmother's story, one I didn't know until my first break-up (just about a month ago). It's so sweet and definitely encourages me to just wait for love to come along in the right time.
K, so here goes...
My grandmother (we call her Nanny) was married several times in her life. Her first husband died when my mom was just 3 years old. But even that marriage wasn't a happy one. She even told me that she knew it wasn't love, but her family loved him. She then re-married 3 more times. The mother of the last man (well next to last man) told her not to marry her son. That she understood that she loved him, but that she wouldn't like the lifestyle he lived. This woman knew her son wasn't marriage material, at least not for Nanny. But she loved them both and was there for them through the good and the bad. The divorced after a number of years and my Nanny had given up on men. She had enough! The mother of her ex, a woman everyone called Mama Jack, was always asking my Nanny if she was dating anyone and when would she start dating again. Nanny told her that she was finished with men. So Mama Jack told my Nanny that she was gonna pray that the right man came and knocked on her door. Nanny laughed it off.
A few years later my grandmother moved into a house in Lindale. Down the road lived a man named Mr. Malone. His wife was dying and so she sent meals to them occasionally, and always offered to help in any way she could. She confessed that once she took food over to their house, and he stood right beside her talking. Not just near her, but very close. At a "you're in my personal space" kind of distance. She admitted that she felt very attracted to this man, but knew it was wrong to feel that way; his wife was in another room dying afterall. ( just to clarify, my grandfather was not making a move on Nanny with a dying wife in the next room, he was a gentleman, she just happened to feel attracted to him). Anyhow, a few weeks later, his wife did succumb to her illness.
Months passed and they didn't talk, no need to really. However, one day Nanny comes home from work and just a few minutes later hears a knock on the door. It was Mr. Malone. He says "I know you haven't had time to eat dinner. Get your coat, we're going to eat." It wasn't a group of people, he took her out for dinner, without even asking technically. From then on, they ate dinner together, never actually asking, just sort of telling her. Not long after it blossomed into the greatest love she's even known.
