Some people think a tomato is a fruit, others think its a vegetable.

In your opinion, what is it?

Well, you see Rich, I know it's a fruit so I can't say that it isn't when I know better. It is kinda sweet too. But really, I think of it as a vegetable and I use it as a vegetable. It's not like I stand in the kitchen saying "Hmmm, I've got some tomatoes and some bananas. Which should I make a cake out of?" Actually, I'm not sure how you'd make a tomato cake anyway. And who'd eat it?

Found this tidbit online.


In 1893 , the Supreme Court ruled that the tomato must be considered a vegetable, even though, botanically, it is a fruit. Because vegetables and fruits were subject to different import duties, it was necessary to define it as one or the other. So, tomatoes were declared to be a vegetable given that it was commonly eaten as one. (Source: The Packer, 6/9/90)

Technically, scientifically it is a fruit, but it isn't sweet the way most fruits are so it tastes more like a veggie....

On a side note: Did you know that the fox has always been classified on the canine group, but some scientists are re-considering where it belongs.....

I'm with the others. I know it's a fruit because that's what we're always told, but I think of it as a veggie.

On a side note: Did you know that the fox has always been classified on the canine group, but some scientists are re-considering where it belongs.....

Well, what other group would they put it in??? My dog is an American Eskimo, but he kind of has a pointy face. We think he looks like a fox sometimes.
