Steph, do you have any idea what the film is about? The only thing I know about it at the moment is that the female character shaves her head!

lol, I intend to just turn up and watch it.

No, haven't seen it yet, but I saw "Firewall" and thought it was pretty good.

Tomorrow we are supposed to go see "16 Blocks" with Bruce Willis -- it got good ratings. We were going to see "The Shaggy Dog", but the ratings from the people who saw it weren't that good...so we changed our minds...

If you want to check a movie and see what the viewers voted on it, click here www.imdb.com and you can type in the movie's name and then look for the vote area in the center of the page.

It's based on a comic book...er...."graphic novel" from the 1980s. I had a boyfriend who was a great fan of it (never understood it myself.)

Here's an article about the graphic novel on Wilkipedia

How was it--I'm thinking of seeing it on Sunday. I'm a huge Natalie Portman fan and the write up in my local paper was pretty impressive.

We were going to go see it tonight but instead ended up seeing "Nochnoi Dozor"--Night Watch--a Russian import film that won a bunch of awards. It was AMAZING. I'm so glad we saw this instead. Check it out here: http://imdb.com/title/tt0403358/

                      ok, its film review time!

V for Vendetta was good. Not brilliant, but certainly not a waste of money. I tend to like to watch films that have a certain amount of "believability" to them, which V for Vendetta didnt really have, but it was a good film to watch and had a good story to it.

One to recomend, but not as good (imo) as the one I watched last weekend - Lucky Number Slevin.

Just wanted to add my own tiny review on here.

I thought it was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I thought it was well written, directed, acted and I loved that this movie made me leave the theatre thinking.

EXACTLY! That's the effect it was supposed to have.

It IS based on a comic, but it really makes a political statement.

Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (NATALIE PORTMAN) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked man (HUGO WEAVING) known only as ā€œV.ā€ Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he urges his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V’s mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself – and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plan to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption.
Their was a special on MTV w/ Natalie Portman (I LOVE HER) and they were talking about the significance of this movie compaired to the 9/11 attacks and the war on terrorism. They asked the director I believe if this movie is supposed to be a direct compairison to the Bush Administration, and he said absolutely. This movie makes a STRONG political statement. It does NOT condone any terrost acts, but instead exposes both sides.

I am sooooo excited to see it. It looks beyond awesome.

Also as for the 'believability' of the film...I'd have to say other than the 'martial arts' fight scenes (Don't want to give away too much here) this movie is believable. It's not much different than the **** movement.

Could this happen in the future--where a religious leader takes over and puts a stop to anyone different than what they believe and changes the law to suit them (No music, one tv station, curfew, Uprisers, Gays and Lesbians shipped off to "concentration" camps to die, Puts a spin on everything to suit their needs and to lie to the people) Hey, I see some of this happening right now--just not to the extreme of the movie obviously. But who's to say it couldn't happen the way things are going right now.

I wonder if there is a poll out somewhere about how the american people like this film and if it's divided into the right and left. Would be interesting to see.
