Ok...I had to think about this when I got home from work because I didn't know whether I was horribly embarassed, or whether it was actually pretty funny.
I've decided that it's actually really quite funny when I look at it.
My manager, and I are up at the tills and a customer comes up and says she has something on hold and her name is Gail. She looked vaguely familiar to me and all of a sudden I realize that I used to work with her and I get this big warm fuzzy feeling.
So typical me, I follow my impulse and go around the desk to give her a hug.
I'm just about to hug her and my brain goes *click* and I realize that it's not Gail that I have a warm fuzzy for, it's a lady named Teri that I worked with about 4 years ago! They look very similar (same colour hair, age, both have a snaggly front tooth) and I totally confused them!
In a split second it comes back to me that Gail was someone who worked with my manager and me...and she left under not very good circumstances!
So this hug turns into one of those 'guy' hugs, where we sort of bump shoulders and I quickly go back behind the desk.
Duh. So anyway, I get her her stuff, the sale ends and she leaves.
I look at my manager and go "Hey..that was Gail!"
She says "Yeah....you know, you don't have to be that nice to her." and I'm like "I KNOW! I totally forgot who she was and thought she was an old friend of mine! but I only realized it right when I was about to hug her!"
We had a good laugh about it, and like I said, when I got home and really thought about it, and decided it's actually quite funny. It must've just really confused her to have me come at her like that. She did seem to beetle out of there pretty quick when we were done....
I can't stop chuckling...lol
