I think the Royal family will be in the top 10 (as a group, not individually...maybe with the exception of the Queen). But I think the question is generational. For the WWII generation, Winston Churchill would probably be number 1 or 2. For the Baby Boomers, the Beatles or some other famoud brit. And it's also based on your interests. Bookworms (like me) might name Keats or Shelley or Nancy Mitford or Dr. Johnson. History nuts (like me) might name someone like the Duke of Wellington or the Duke of Marlborough.

Re: Who is the most famous person?

Rich, I will probably spell it wrong again in the future.

Isaac Newton is pretty famous, too. Most folks probably haven't studied physics, but they are probably aware of the falling apple story.

I would like to think that most Americans would know who King George III was, but I am always amazed at what people don't know.

As far as a famous British writer, I would vote for Shakesphere as best known.

I could go on and on....

God save the Queen, because Prince Charles will bring the country to its knees if he sets in as King. (Did I say that in my outloud voice?)

Well, it would be interesting to see which Duke she was referring to.

Maybe Prince William will become king instead??

He was a general and defeated the French army in the 1700s, but was involved in some money-bribery scandal.

Sarah Furgeson. Well, she isn't the most famous, just someone I really think is a cool person.
