  • An Americanism.

I have seen / heard the term "Jonesing" a bit on the board this week. What does it mean?

It's a craving just like they said. I think it comes from Jones Street in New York, where there was a lot of drug buying and selling.

I thought it meant coveting, like in the expression "keeping up with the Jones's"

Really wanting something or craving something. i.e., I'm really jonesing for a big mac.

Here in the Uk we have a phrase "keeping up with the Jones'" which translates to always being upto date with things and being a trend follower.

                Slightly different then ;-)

exactly the right answer it always was linked to herion actually ...."jonesing for a fix"

it has nothing to do with keeping up with anyone it has to do with curing craving ...

                        Yup, it's a hard-core drug reference . . . I never use it, myself, for that reason.

I use it when explaining the craving our newbies and their induction flu.

                          as a compariosn for them
just like a drug addict in withdrawal looking for a fix their high carb body is jonesing for carbs and anything else they had to give up like caffeine and just like a drug addict in withdrawal the physical part of the addiction will pass in a few days and then they will be a clean low carber fighting the mental part of their addiction.
