Man got divorced in his sleep

An Indian Muslim man has reportedly been ordered to separate from his wife after saying 'I divorce thee' in his sleep.

Aftab Ansari was told to leave Sohela, his wife of 11 years, after he said ‘talaq’ - the Arabic equivalent of 'I divorce thee' - three times while asleep.

Religious scholars in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, told the couple to obey orders or face social boycott, reports Asian News International.

The couple were told the only alternative under Muslim law was a temporary separation of 100 days during which the wife would stay at her father’s house and spend a night with another man who she must marry.

Sohela could then remarry Aftab after obtaining a divorce from her second husband.

But the mother of three has threatened to commit suicide if forced to marry someone else: “I love him and I don’t want to leave him in any case," she said.

But Aftab said: “I think what my society is doing is also not wrong. I think they are doing what they think is right.”

                      Re: Who Told?

ok i might explain it..since iam muslim and asian.
first of all that is bullshit!!
no one can get divorced if the husband is saying those words in sleep..i think that scholar who declared the divorce should correct his believes first..

if the husband divorces the wife in conciousness..and maybe in a state of anger and he is meaning to leave the wife only then the divorce is valid!!!
                      the women isnt divrced yet!!

plus it isnt like that sleep with a man for a night and return to your husband just like that
every thing has a purpose behind..
if suppose a woman is divorced..she has to observe three months of Iddat..that is you dont see any male who isnt a blood relation to u(u have to be insidethe house so if u are pregnant with your husband the world knows who is the father)

then after 3 months u can get married again..and sleep with your lawful husband in islam we dont sleep with any guy out of wed lock..

then if the things go wrong and u feel that u cant live the guy u married u can ask for a divorce and u haveto observe another 3 months of idda` and then u can marry the man ..your firs husband..but if someone marries a man thinking just to get the divorce the very next day and return to first husband that isnt allowed

                      u cant Fool God!!

and why would the woman return to the man who divorced her in the first place???

it isa realy very outrageous for me..and it hurst too

but the thing is Media some times portray a wrong picture of any religion not particularly islam..and we shouldnt discuss such things on ADBb because we all are family here..when i am on ADBb religion is the last thing on my mind.
if u have any queries about islam and my bliefe u can ask me by sending a PM.

Plus i would like to see the proofs to believ that this news is true..any one can make news just out of nothing..and if that is a true story i would love to sue the man the who declared the divorce and the newspaper or site too for misleading the mass.
                        it is just rubbish

                          Re: Who Told?

Sades ukhti you are right. No one can get divorced in Islam if the husband is saying those words in his sleep. We know that is non-sense. We also know that Islam is hijacked all too often by tribal rules and cultural rules which often have nothing to do with Islam. For instance, you hear about young women being "forced" to marry a certain man for instance, but this is not Islam! Yet, many people hear this this or read about this from biased news reports and believe that Muslim women are forced to marry certain men.

There are so many myths out there about Islam it makes me sick. This article that was posted is just another myth that obviously exists in this particular tribal region or cultural region, and is NOT Islam.

It's funny how for instance, many people think that Saudi Arabia depicts the ideal "Muslim" society, which is complete utter nonsense. There is no compulsion in Islam as a basic premise. Christians aren't even allowed to practice their faiths in Saudi Arabia! At least here in the U.A.E. the Sheikh of the country even donated land for many churches to build their buildings on free land!

I'm just here in defense of what is too often misunderstood and hope that these tribal rules/cultural values of specific cultures are NOT taken to be the truth.

                            Re: Who Told?

                            u are right Diva'
in islam our prophet married Hazarth Khadija when she was 50 and he was 25..and even his wife proposed him and he accepted
but in our society it is not practisied because of cultur ..islam allows a woman to marry the man she wants or loves..islam even allows u to go out with the man who u think can be a huband to get to know each other..but our society doesnt allow this
islam allows a woman to get divorce if she is nt happy with the man but in our cultur in my country atleas ppl consider it a bad thing
islam allows women to work but then again in my cultur it isnt that easy for women to go out and earn on their own
so u are very right when u say that Islam is hijacked by the traditions and cultures.

This is coming from left field here - but I remember an episode of "The Flintstones" from when I was a kid and Wilma wanted a fur coat so she would whisper it to Fred when he was asleep and he bought it for her the next day.
I tried that with my sister after watching that and whispered for her to clean my half of our room - it didn't work. I tried whispering for several nights LOL I was such a goofball! Does anyone else remember that episode of Flintstones???
