islam allows a woman to get divorce if she is nt happy with the man but in our cultur in my country atleas ppl consider it a bad thing
islam allows women to work but then again in my cultur it isnt that easy for women to go out and earn on their own
so u are very right when u say that Islam is hijacked by the traditions and cultures.
And sis don't forget the Prophet's wife, Aisha was also a leader at times, she would speak in front of large gathering of people too. Which is a complete contrast to how Muslim women today are portrayed.

It makes me sad that there is so much nonsense going on in today's world over Muslims and Islam. People are believing nonsense out of fear or hysteria over all the activities going on in the world at the moment.

It is sad. And its not just Muslims and Islam that is misunderstood. Alot of religions are. Unless its your belief, and maybe even then, there will always be something that is misunderstood - wether its Mormon, Wicca, Catholic, Islam, Jehova Witness.........someone somewhere will believe something or hear a rumor about something that isn't true or that is true but twisted a bit from the truth. Thats life. We live it, We love it. We believe what we believe and maybe we all believe differently, but we have one thing in common for sure - we are all wonderful, awesome individuals here to get healthy! Wooo hooo for us!

Yes you are right Lady Hawke, many different faiths are misunderstood, but I personally feel that in today's world, it is much more against Islam. But all in all there are misunderstandings against different religions. And yes, we are all here for one thing, to get healthy!

          u are right lady hawk
we are here for one purpose and that is to loose weight and make new friends to get the maximum support
as i have said already when i am on AdBB religion is the last thing on my mind
and i would never go ahead and post a thread that is about any religion or faith ..and i dont know much about it
it is even rude to post in a thread like this when u might can hurt someones feeling
i read many stories about many religions that are misleading but i never post them..why agitate ppl when i really dont know even the basics of that religion???

My utmost apologies. I did not post it with the intent of mocking your religion, nor of hurting your feelings. I was just astounded at the content, and wondered about how a person would know it even happened.

Seems that my fingers get me in as much trouble as my mouth, at times. I often seem to be misunderstood.

              Its is ok Cmcole
it must have been shocking to u as much as it is for us..since u dont know much about our religion and it is shocking to us since we know everything about our religion..and we know it is bullshit and a propoganda to defame Islam
this story is from india where the official religion is Hinduism i wont say that indian muslims dont know much about islam but they are influenced by the majority`s religion plus sometimes media depicts the wrong side ofthe picture and things must have not been gone that wrong

all i could read on internet is that shcolars told them to live seperately since there isnt any authentic hadith(prohets saying) about if situation like this happen what to do?
so the scholars told them to live seperately untill all the scholars could find a solution and they could agree on it if the divorce is actually occured or not?since if they had told them right away that u arent divorced yet some sects of islam ould get irritated and that couldlead to some unrest in the region..we take religion very seriously since islam isnt about just preaching a GOd..it is a complete code of life from eating to sleeping every thing is defined and disciplined in islam how much to eat when to sleep and when it is time to wake up ..and IMHO what islam tells us most ofthe world is already doing that ..that is considerd as a good habit..like not to tell lies not to back bite not to hurt someone physically or meotionaly respect others religion dont steal ..and i think its all we need to live a successful life

it was natural for me to get upset since i think if i dont do justice to my religion and its following i cant do justice to anyone and anything in real life
              i did what i had to .

                Re: Who Told?

cmcole, we accept your apology and I realize sometimes that things can be said or in the case of the Internet, "posted" without the wrong intention at times. It happens to everyone at one point or another.

                Well said Sades!

Another thing that upsets me while living here in the UAE is learning first hand from Indian Muslims where there is NO dowry to be paid by the bride when she gets married (in Islam) but because of the strong influence of Hinduism the Indian Muslims still live by forcing often huge amounts of dowry to the groom and his family. And there have been numerous women murdered after failing to pay up the promised dowry amounts. In Islam, the groom gives a dowry to the bride. It can be any amount really, I know here in the UAE many of the Emirati women (UAE nationals) expect huge dowries (like brand new cars, their own apartments, etc etc), and this has pressured many UAE men to marry non-UAE women because usually non UAE women don't expect huge dowries.

This man who cleans our house is from India and he has been working in this country for the last 20 years, he managed to build himself a house, but he's still paying off the dowries from 2 of his sisters!!!!! I was shocked when I talked to him about this. He told me that he never asked for any dowry from his wife, because he said it is against Islam and he didn't care if he was losing out on an opportunity. I thought that was so honest and brave of him to not take a dowry eventhough men in India can do so by law. He has a daughter who is a teenager now, and he's already hoping that she will find a man who will not ask for a dowry.

Sorry for running off on a tangent but it is just really contradictory how ethnic and cultural pressures in some countries can really distort images of religions (i.e. Islam).

Here is an article that some of you might be interested in reading, which does happen here in the UAE. I'm only posting it for information purposes, just to broaden horizons of other countries' laws.

Child born out of wedlock lands couple behind bars
By Bassam Za'za', Staff Reporter (GULF NEWS) www.gulfnews.com

Dubai: A child, born out of an extra-marital relationship, has landed a Filipino couple behind bars.

The Dubai Public Prosecution had charged the man, identified as J.R., and his mistress, identified as L.N., with having an illicit relationship. The woman was also charged with consuming liquor.

The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced each of them to a month in jail on Monday. The woman was also fined Dh2,000 for taking liquor. They will be deported after serving their prison terms.

Police heard that the couple were having an illicit relationship and after the woman gave birth, the medical reports proved that J.R. was the father. They were taken in for questioning.

In their statement to the police and public prosecution, the couple confessed to the charges.

                    Re: Who Told?

Interesting to hear what rubbish can be published in the media, without proper evidence and give islam such a bad name.

I must say most of the things followed in India and Pakistan are traditional rather than religion, (one of them arranged marriage). As mentioned before, Islam does allow you to choose your partner, that is why you are asked 3 times with witness whether you accept your partner. However most of them are mix in tradition and religion, and do not know whether its a traditional or religion.

For instant mentioned above dowry is not permisibble in islam, however most of them think its religion.

I could not agree more, ADBB is a family, with people from all different religion, traditional, beliefs, (all over the world), we should all bear that in mind.
