  • My cat and his behavior

Ok, I got a cat (Jazzmine) when she was under a year old and wild. I've had her 6-7 years. She took to litter box training well. Then she began to pee in the bath tub. right by the drain and watches it go down . (Imagine my shock the day I caught her, LOL ) I thought it was funny at first but then began to find it odd. So I had her spayed. I'd always kept her box clean, we took turns dh & I did. So, I changed her litter. She'd still poop in her box. She had no litter preference that I could tell. She doesn't do it everytime, but she does it often. Everytime I walk into the bathroom I look to see if I need to wash the tub again So this goes on. Time for shots come around and I mention it, they do tests, find nothing unusaul like UTI or anything...So I live with it....by shutting the door etc. but the door gets left open anyway at some point....we move. we buy a two-story condo.

So years later, we get another cat. A boy (Sebastian) he's a baby baby. He takes to the litter box well and things are fine. Then one day I heard it...psssssssshhhhhcchhhhh....guggle guggle guggle....I run to look, and SEBASTIAN now pees in the tub. They both use the litter box and they both use the tub... Think Jazz taught Sebastian or he observed it>? is it because they follow us everywhere and know thats where we go 'potty'?? lol...Is it laziness cuz their box is upstairs? We have bought a new style box to see if that was the problem, maybe they wanted privacy? we tried the liners, the litters the sands, cleaning every day...there's no reason they should be using the tub! and I am about to pull my hair out....

    Thanks for listening

That is bizarre. Cats are usually so easy litter box train. What does your vet say. Maybe some people at PetCo or Petsmart can help you with the cats behavior problems. That would drive me crazy. I hope you find someone who can help you out.

My kitty George was an indoor outdoor kitty. He had no litter box in the house and always went outside - or so I thought! George too used to pee down the drain in the shower - it was usually when it was freezing cold out.
I thought it was strange, but could understand him not wanting to go out in freezing weather. I also thought it was rather nice of him to pee in the shower and not around the house somewhere.
Your cats sound normal. Do they like to drink from a running faucet too? George did.

Well thats just it, she was litter box trained, she USED it everytime!! then she started this... and when we got the boy, we had him fixed and he'd use the box too, but the tub thing just started up again, she taught him....there's not one reason that they should be doing this that I can think of...well, unless they see my hubby peeing in there, lol, I'd kill him if I ever cought HIM! I mean, if they wanna use my appliances they are more than welcome to poop AND pee in the toilet...all they want...

Is this something you look at as a problem or is it something you can live with?
I think I'd be ok with it...I'd just keep a bottle of bleach cleaner right there and give the tub a once over before using it.

Re: My cat and his behavior

you know I remember seeing a clear litter box that fits on the toilet so that the cats learn to "go" on the toilet and then you remove the litter box and they are trained to use the toilet. Does anyone know what its called?
The only trouble I could see with that is if the cat was using the bathroom and you needed to go.
              Good luck! Keep us posted

As a child we had a cat do that. She would pee right over the drain and poo at the other end of the tub. Mom put her litter box in the tub and she would poo there but always pee'd over the drain. I wonder why so many do that.

What's wrong with that? I mean, I pee in the bathtub.

                  (Hahaha. Just kidding!)

When I was at Cracker Barrel last week I read a book about how to toilet train your cat. Maybe you can get them potty trained?

Re: My cat and his behavior

I'm not sure if you mentioned it or not, but it's good to have at least 2 litter boxes for a multiple cat home. Actually the rule of thumb I read recently was a litter box for each, plus one more- so for two cats, 3 boxes. We only have two boxes for our two though, but they seem to pee more in one and use the other to mainly poop in. I scoop every morning, and even some afternoons so their boxes are kept very clean.

You could try getting a second box and placing it IN the tub, and after a few days move it to the floor outside the tub, if they keep using it start moving it down the hall (leaving it where it's at for a few days) until you finally get it moved to where you'd like it to be permanently. I understand this is all a huge PITA to do it this way but this is what worked for us a number of years ago (old cat peed in tub too)
