  • An update on the blood donating!

Ok, there are constantly adverts on UK tv saying that there is a massive blood shortage in the UK and that giving blood saves peoples lives etc etc.

Well I turn up at 18:40 to give my blood. And they turn me away, because apparently they are too busy.

I am spitting blood here, totally disgusted. I take some time out of my fairly busy life to donate (not sell) my blood. A total selfless act! And they turn me away.

    Sorry, but thats just wrong.

yeah... that's wrong.. and I"ll bet an email to some manager.. or district person might get some things moving...

bet it was just daily staff that turned you away... who get paid the same whether they do a lot.. or nothing..

i'd complain to someone higher up!

if they're turning people away because they are too BUSY.. then no wonder there's a shortage!

Wow that stinks! Is there a peak time for donating blood? You would think they'd be more accomadating.

Now you should make them PAY for it next time they ask!

Let's just look at the flip side of this. If you had to stay for a couple of hours to donate blood, would you willingly go back next time? I personally would rather be turned away then made to sit for hours on end. Thats my opinion though.

To be honest, Atkid, I was expecting a long weight, which is why I took a good book with me. Seriously I would have happily waited a couple of hours.

Re: An update on the blood donating!

I wonder if they knew that - I know with a lot of Blood Centers here in the states, there are just too few phlebotomists and they are working with a limited window of time. Plus, the pre-screening questions can take up to 20 minutes.

It's unfortunate - the blood cycle can make it difficult too. You can't stockpile blood for a really long time - so there are almost constant periods where blood banks are in 'short' supply.

I'm glad you went though - there's something nice about donating blood.

Very good to see you Sprocket!

I agree in the value. In fact, I have stopped giving whole blood and was convinced rather to give platelets as they seem more necessary or desireable than another pint of AB+ blood. Or maybe they just like seeing my face every other week or so.

Yep, it's definitely your handsome face they lust after, Kent. And they probably enjoy seeing your hot bod too!

On the blood donor side, I have not been able to donate since I came up here because their hours were all wrong. But I can now go (ponce I get my car!) on Tuesday evenings. Mind you, it's a 60km total detour on the way home but I enjoy feeling useful.

Rich, here in NSW they recommend you always ring first and make an appointment and that ensures you will be fitted in. Is an appointment system available where you donate, would save any hassle next time?
