Man Charged With Cutting Off Dog's Ear

An Illinois man is in custody after allegedly cutting an ear off a dog because he thought it looked prettier that way.

Aurora police received a report and say when they arrived to the scene, found 18-year-old Gregory A. Balano with scissors in his hand standing over the bleeding dog.

Balano then climbed to the roof of the house but was finally apprehended, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Balano said he heated the scissors to blunt the pain. He cut off the left ear as the 1-year-old pit bull was chained to a tree.

And people wonder why pitt bulls have such a bad rap!!

Sure, they have a powerful jaw, but I know that, from personal experience, if treated well, they can be very loving.

BTW, I don't feel that what that idiot did was appropriate for any pet!!

What a stupid a$$, I would like to personally cut off his ear. People are ignorant. I could never imagine putting my baby Cybil (2 year old german shepherd) through any kind of pain, she is like my kid.

Harks back to the bad old days of tail docking and ear chopping, yes, to make them look 'pretty'. In this case I'd like to have seen the dog rip someone's ear off - he really deserves it!
