As far as "speaking Greek". My bil's girlfriend is French Canadian. I try to remember that many of our slang expressions are like Greek to her. There's been many times that I've forgotten and I try to explain what I mean. It can be difficult at times, since we're so used to them.

Good Luck in your run tomorrow. I second what BoxerMom said, keep that head covered, even if the sun isn't shining!!

Let me take this opportunity to offer a gentle reprimand to my American cousins.

In this post I have just been having a little fun with Rich, another Brit. Usually I am very careful to use international English, explain any terms which may be difficult, and make sure the units of measurement I use are clearly specified.

I wish some of my American cousins were so careful - do remember there are English speakers from all over the world on this board, many who use English as a second or third language.

Ghetto speak does not help.

So Rich, get them boots and braces (suspenders) on, and that scruffy tee shirt, and let's see you a real Bovver Boy.

I agree that slang can be quite confusing. Even in the States, different regions have different terms for the same thing.

The other big thing is in the measurement arena (metric vs inches, etc.). I can remember in high school (I graduated in 1972 - that would be the 12th grade), the U.S. was grappling with changing over to metric. Obviously, it hasn't happened yet. My intention is not to go into the pros of metric or the negatives of what is used in the States (I realize that metric is more of a universal thing).
