    GRRRRR....

I'm so mad at myself for getting out of my brother's car at my other brother's house. They have a dog who is very mean and has scratched up my DD about a year ago, and IMO she should be put out of her misery. Well, my nephew was on his stupid cell phone while he was sort of trying to hold on to her, and my stepmother "forgot" to tell us that the invisible fence would not prevent her from her from getting to us at the garage door but it WOULD have been safe to go in the front.

Anyway, she started growling and came up and sniffed us and before I knew it she had grabbed my hand. I didn't think it was that hard, and it barely broke the skin, but in a few minutes it started throbbing and swelling. I've only had one broken bone before (ankle) and it kind of feels like that with the "waves" of pain. I've thankfully got a high pain tolerance and went around hobbling the whole weekend with a broken bone back then. But as you can see, I CAN type although it's kind of painful.

Could I have sprained it or something? I keep putting ice on it and taking Naproxen. I won't have time for the DR tomorrow, I have an important job interview in the morning, and I just closed on some new (very important)business on Friday and will need to be in touch with corporate to get it set up.

I'm sure the dog has had rabies shots, as my bro is a police detective and got this monster with a view to having a police dog. Not that she is smart enough. My neighbor is a K-9 officer and has a very nice dog who has killed a man but is okay around real people, too. Just mad at the dog, mad at myself, just glad it wasn't my DD again! And the dishes are in the sink and I'm not doing them!!

    Thanks for letting me vent.....

      Re: Dog bite

I have very stronge issues with dogs that bite because I have a rescued pit bull ..she is a dream come true ..but has been temperment tested and was in a "foster home" for a month before she was released to me....she is a safe dog....there are safe dogs...your brothers is not apparently

I would not keep a dog that bit and I would turn in any dog that bit ...my dog gets a bad rap for other owners lack of ability to handle theirs ..brother or not if there is a dangerous dog around it is to me like leaving a loaded weapon in front of a child...

I am sorry you were bitten... but your brother needs a serious warning about this ..it is just not right or legal to have a dog like this ...and if no one does anything something awful is going to happen....

we can not tell you here if you broke anything what we can tell you it to see a Doctor and turn that dog in!

        Re: Dog bite

Im with Heidi here. I do NOT tolerate any dog that bites unprovoked. I have experience training hunting dogs and have worked in the veterinary profession for a number ofyears. There is no reason to tolerate a dog that bites, period. What if it was your daughter that got bit? you do realize that someday, someones kid is going to get nailed by that dog, even if it isnt your kid.

Be sure to wash out your bites VERY well. You should have a tetnus booster and you definitly need to see a medical professional. Id also add tylenol to the naproxin for pain relief.

          Re: Dog bite

Well, I don't really need the pain relief per se, cuz I don't want to overuse it, and pain prevents me from overdoing. Today is much better and I was able to drive, so I guess there are no broken bones. There is a large bruise on the outside edge of my hand which almost looks like what you get with a bone break, from the slow blood leakage. If not for that, I would have decided it is just a sprain. I can't figure why the whole hand, even the wrist, is swelling. The skin was broken (And yes, I disinfected it real good right away with Tea tree oil) but not a lot, but she must have wrenched or twisted it in some way to make it hurt this bad.

The doctor that has x-ray facilities is an hour's drive, otherwise I have to pay my deductible, and I'm sort of between jobs so that's out. But I need to go in that direction soon, it's in the same town I was working when they suddenly ran out of money, so I have "stuff" at my desk that I need to go retrieve. My ex-employer won't call me back to tell me when the place will be open and I'm sure not driving that far just for the doctor!

I agree about the danger of having that animal!! My bro has an 18 month old sweet little boy and I worry about him. My SIL says it's the first time Shotzi ever bit someone, but my other bro said that the dog she gave him was said to have never bitten until he bit HIS DD. Then they found out it had bitten before!!!! So they obviously are in denial. I can't call the police, because he IS the police. He holds a detective position on the sherriff's dept and is very well respected. My hope is that she tries to attack one of his police friends and gets SHOT before doing major damage. It sounds mean, but they have known she is bad-natured, and this would be the only solution I can see.

Maybe I should have DH take some digital pictures and send them to my brother. The excuse "she was just trying to be protective" is bullpoopoo. I have a dog that will threaten to eat an intruder, but when I welcome someone in, he's his best friend. Mine is a mutt, part German Shepherd. I know what you mean, Heidi, the reputation comes from bad trainer/owners. We did a lot of work with our "alpha" to get him to mind us, and our K-9 cop neighbor thinks he's great. Maybe we were lucky, too, but if he was that aggressive, I sure wouldn't keep him.

Should I get the rest of the family together and call an "intervention" on this? They are all very aggravated!

            Re: Dog bite

It was your brothers dog that bit you on his property - he should pay your medical bills and if he doesn't want to do it out of pocket, his homeowners insurance ought to cover it.
Pick up the phone and call your brother and tell him your hand requires medical attention and that he responsible, he's a cop and he ought to know that.
            Good Luck.
