    Re: Advice on new windows

I did remodel and new home construction for years and there are a lot of things to watch out for. Do a LOT of research and get at least 5 bids. Most of the major window manufacturers have detailed websites that will explain the windows construction and things like R-value and Low-E glass. There's way too much to post here. I'm not sure how old your house is but I assume if your replacing the windows it's 20+ years, watch out for the people who try to sell you extremely expensive triple pane windows that will "cut your heating bill in half". Triple pane windows do make a huge difference in a new home because the house is insulated extremely well to begin with and usually have a high efficiency furnace, older homes are usually losing heat from many other places other than the windows so you'll never get a return on the high cost of the triple pane windows. Most of the time double pane are going to work just fine. I also really like vinyl windows much beter than wood clad. Wood rots, discolors, and warps no matter how good the manufacturer is. Don't even consider aluminum clad. I hope this helps a little.
