Scary stuff!
Charone Ladame Josey was arrested yesterday and charged with damage to personal property. Josey is being held on $10,000 bond until a court appearance next month.
Workers at a Food Lion in Raleigh called police two weeks ago when they noticed a man acting strangely in the meat department. Police spokesman Jim Sughrue says the man may have pierced a package of meat or tore into it, and he had a syringe in his hand.
"The employee said it appeared that he had a syringe in his hand and that he poked the meat with a syringe," Sughrue said.
A Food Lion spokesman said the meat was immediately taken off the shelves and turned over to police for testing. Police say the packing had a tear in the covering, but they do not know what if anything was injected from the syringe. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is testing the meat in a regional lab. Tampering with packaged food is a serious crime. While Josey is charged on misdemeanor counts, more serious charges are pending.
