Mother's Day, for me, is usually a day filled with some level of expectation that *I* get to be pampered for a bit. Every year I hope that I'll get to sleep in, wake up to a cooked breakfast, clean house, clean children, hear nothing but music and smiles (read: no bickering among the troops), and that there'll be a freshly picked bouqet of lilacs on the table. I used to be foolish enough to believe that this wasn't a lot to ask for and hope for.
I know. I might just as well ask for the moon. LOL!!
This year my kids were at their dads for the weekend. I stayed at my boyfriend's house Saturday night, and guess what?
I got to sleep in!
It was soon after waking up that I realized I didn't have to clean house, and right after that? Phone calls from my troops wishing me a Happy Mother's Day, along with calls from several of my girlfriends.
I scooped up my kids mid-afternoon, and off to my mom's we went. We stopped and picked a bouqet of lilacs for her and went to dinner. It was wonderful. Sitting at dinner my mom presented me with a tiny box and told me, "these are yours, for now and ever. Something that no one can take from you or manipulate you out of." - A pair of diamond earrings. - She's amazing.
My kids presented me with a white gold and diamond charm braclet and a necklace with a pendant of hearts. It made my heart smile!
The best thing though?
A book made for me by Sammy-Jammy.
"To My Mom"
My favorite time together is when we "go to the Mall of America".
Write MOM upside down. What does it spell? "WOW" (in big purple marker)
If I could give my mother something special just from me, it would be (picture of flowers).
My mother looks prettiest when "she wears red." (picture of me drawn in red marker)
My favorite thing about my mother is "that she plays video games with me" (picture of the two of us drawn in red marker)
I know my mother loves me because "she tells me she loves me, that I'm her most favorite 6 year old on the planet, she calls me 'Sammy-Jammy', and snuggles me in bed!" (drew a red heart)
I want to thank you, Mom, "for letting me go to the museum with my cousins".

Forget the silly hopes and expectations - I got way more than I was smart enough to hope for.
How was your Mother's Day?
