  • Florida Man Catches 1,280-Pound Hammerhead Shark

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A Port Charlotte fisherman caught a great hammerhead shark near Boca Grande on Tuesday that could be a new world sport fishing record.

Fisherman Bucky Dennis was alone on his boat when the animal took the bait, a 25-pound stingray. A friend on a nearby vessel climbed aboard Dennis' boat to help. The five-foot-nine, 180-pound man also used shoulder harnesses.

Dennis said it took five hours to land the great hammerhead shark after it towed their fishing boat 12 miles from Boca Grande Pass.

Being one in the fishing industry that thing is a lunker lol! Usually they back the boat up and cheat so they dont have to fight the fish so hard. Kudos to them for harnessing up and fighting it. LOL using a stingray for bait though?

That is less than an hour south of where I live. We see hammerheads at the beach sometimes, but just tiny ones. I have no idea why I still insist on going in that water.

That must be the reason. I think wrestling a shark might be fun.

It is with a harness. With one you get to use your legs and sit back and squat against the shark as opposed to without one its all your back and arms. Is it lame that I know that?
