  • Let's talk art :)

I am so bitttchy lately about everything WRONG with the world and what better way of turn that stupid mood around than talking about what is RIGHT with the world....

I love art ...paintings are my favorite ..although sculptures run a close second ....and I actually adore and look for great graffiti when I travel because most great artists in life are never discovered and I want to see what they can do!!!

I took the train by myself a few years ago from Seattle to Providence and saw some amazing graffiti when I hit Chicago and NY ...some may call it trash but I was seeing some national treasures of emotions that was for sure!!!! from pain and poverty comes some amazing pieces ....Dallas has some good graffiti under a bridge in the club district near the Mozerella cheese company for those who live there ....

tattoos are amazing art as well ..that is why I have mine ...it is a beautiful, personal treasure and a passionate piece that evolved on my body as I have evolved .. and I will carry this kids work with me to the grave!

my all time favorite artists are

Picasso (for his constant moodiness and changes)
Salvadore Dali (brilliant colors and views of the world ..especially when it came to time)
Peter Max (he defines joy to me his colors and character are so brilliant and he is so joyful in his art)
Auguste Rodan (that guy defined erotica for me that is for sure ..his stuff makes me very hot!!!)
Josh my tattoo artist ( a kid with intense passion who studied in Spain and fills skin with color and beauty and insanity)
my mother and grandmother (were so good at soft colors and oils they just spoke of beatiful things when they painted)
Mindy of course (I find our Mindy to be one of the most emotionally expressive artists I know ..she gave me an image she did of our old friend Jollymonbass and I have it hanging in my hallway where i can see it daily...it is brilliant and actually she saw beyond his online persona ...like we all should have)

oh I can not stop it just goes on and on...

I could never ever choose a favorite painting ..when I go to an art show or even look through google images when I am overstimulated by life ...

the one that seems to define a moment in time for me and can pull my attention so I fixate on it for a long time .is my favorite.....If I can feel a connection with the artist ...then it is my favorite...if I am stirred to tears or laughter or just smiling contently ...that is my favorite ...

I can not paint at all I can not sit still long enough to even try!!! My mother and grandmothers were both brilliant painters......

the ONLY artistic talent I have is in cooking....but I really also believe there is an "art" to being a good audiance as well and I am a great audiance for talent because I really really really appreciate it!!!!

there is rarely a moment with I look at the work of these artists ...especially Picasso...and not know where their heads were at when they painted ...even if I can not relate by my personal experiences in life I sure can feel and empathise for what the moment held for them in life ...I love that feeling

I am going to an art exhibit today ...on the fly ..because I can

introduce us please to your favorite artists

I love art of another sort! I love music. Now I do have my favorites, I listen to all the time, but all music is beautiful. Harmony and notes, with vocals and with out.
    Mozart
    Bach
current artists I love it all. Quiet is the scarest sound I know!

ok this is kind of cool when I went to Florida for my last visit Art Basal was in Miami they had a tasting booth where you looked at a print and then put a flavor strip in your mouth ..they had all kinds of things from gas fumes to mango ..it was amazing how it changed the character of the art you saw by the taste in your mouth ....

OMG I AM MORTIFIED!!! I FORGOT MY HUSBAND AND SON!!!!

they are by far the most amazing artists I have knowledge of!!!!!
my house is full of their art and I am so embarassed I did not even mention them in this thread!!!

My son as maybe you have seen me gloat over shamelessly time and time again does mainly cartoons but some beautiful abstracts and every card I have for holidays birthdays whatever is designed and dedicated to me from Ian ... he is brillaint and passionate and ...and and..omg I can not stop he is amazing

my husband is an Einstien like inventor who churns out metal sculpture of the most amazing things ...mainly naked woman of various body types ...it is all over my yard and house even in the background of my tummy pic here....
he even designed and created all our wrought iron gates ...he is magnificant.....

and I am ever humbled by them both

support the arts ...even the free ones you think are messy could be a future cultural treasure you know...just look closely and see what someone is trying to convey

          I love free art

            Sighs for Modigliani, Renoir, Klee...

Sighs for Mozart, Back, Sigur Ross, Joe Cocker...

There are so many... in all fields... there are so many, I can't even think of them!

And, yes Heidi... there's so much RIGHT with the world. It's good to focus on what is, now and again, rather than what isn't. Thanks for a refreshing thread!

                  Re: Let's talk art

can quilts be an art form? i say yes. i love quilts and wish i could save every old quilt out there. when i look at them i stand amazed at the time and effort that someone put into it. i wonder if the pieces came from an old dress or the husbands old work shirt. i think what was the lady doing in her life when she made the quilt. was it winter? had she been canning goods from the tilled ground that day? was supper cooking? were the kids already snuggled under another bundle of love she had made? what kind of woman was she?

                  i love quilts.

the artist i really like to stitch is Paula Vaughn. she paints and other people do the chart work for her. Linda Culp Calhoun charted many of her things. the piece you have, heidi, is a Paula Vaughn. the detail she puts into the drawings is so soothing to me. lots of outdoor and calming scenes.
