  • I'm fixing to buy a hammock. Advice needed.

Here's my story. I have no trees in my back yard. So I need a hammock stand. I've done some hammock research and found that a rope hammock would best suit me (unless anyone has advice to the contrary).

So, does anyone have any recommendations on the brand, etc.?

Oh, this company makes the nicest hammocks and stands too!

Be careful with what you buy! I bought a cheap one and have hurt myself more than once when the stand came apart, I even have a nice permanent scar on my leg from one of the times!

What about nylon versus cotton hammocks? Particularly the "stretch" aspect of it. I would think a cotton hammock would have more stretch than a nylon one?

You may want to go ahead and price some large umbrellas while you're at it then. You don't want to be rocked to sleep out in the blazing sun!

Well, I don't have trees in my back yard, but my neighbor has a large oak that's near the property line and overhangs my property (don't mind the overhang or the leaves in the fall, because I use them for my compost). So I was planning to position the hammock under the overhang.

I don't know about nylon Megs. The ones I posted are very popular here, its a NC company and everyone here of course swears that they are best hammocks..Unfortunatley I can't afford one so i don't have 1st hand experience to share.

Thanks. After work yesterday, I went around to different stores and bought a hammock stand (me and a retired couple got the last two stands!). I'm still looking/deciding/comparing for a hammock. I'll probably buy the cotton Pawley Island hammock I saw yesterday.

Hammocks are so great. I've always wanted one since I was a kid and thought one would be great in a bedroom. (Gilligan's Island style)

my hammock is cotton and I think it feels great to lay on ..I don't like the feel of nylon...as far as stretch ...My husband and I can rest in it together for a combined wt of 350lbs and it has never stretched ..we also leave it out the entire season ..take it in in the winter and rain does not seem to impact it..
