Dear dear MoG - yes, indeed my real name is Anastasja. That was one heck of a mouthful as a child!!

My dad wanted to name me Stacy (actually the doctors said I would be a boy, so my name would have been Stephen -- thank God I'm a girl!!) -- Mom looked that up in the baby name book and voila, Stacy is a diminutive for Anastasia. My mom loved the princess name, so there you are. Anastasia became Anastasja (for my Czech ancestors), but I was almost always called Stacy, unless I was bad - then the full name made an appearance!

I have friends who call me Stazia as well.
