    Re: E-coli in prepackaged salads!

Yeah I remember hearing that most salads like coleslaw potato etc are made in big buckets/bowls and stirred with hands. A coworker of mine found a wedding ring in the cafeteria potato salad she had bought, which is how i discovered this LOL. You'd think they'd at least wear gloves?

Sometimes it's better not to examine our world so closely. The more you look, the more (disgusting things) you will see.
I think this too...I've also heard that a few germs is better for you than completely sanitizing everything. Your body needs to build up immunity to things. I stopped using antibacterial cleaners after hearing that they do more harm than good.

When I was a kid we lived in another country and everything we bought was suspect, so we washed all fruit and veggies in a gallon of water and a T of bleach. I think its time to start doing that again

Sadie even if they wear gloves..who knows where the gloves have been? The drop stuff on the floor all the time and pick it up and use it. The floors in restarurant kitches can be super nasty btw!

Yes, I have heard the same..too sterile can be bad as well. But I don't think they're talking about ingesting samonilla or e-coli ! I think they mean everyday kinda germs, not things that make you very sick or even kill you!

Oh great Boonie, now you have to bring the flesh eating bacteria into this! YIKES!

And no Jerz, you can't have a cookie! But seriously, if you were going to die would that be what you really wanted for your last supper?

This is why I don't buy prepackaged salads....not to mention I don't think they have as long a shelf life as the intact veggies.....

Are we any safer buying un-bagged, intact veggies that just got picked by some grubby migrant field worker that forgot to wash his hands and visited a local health clinic where he was examined by a traveling doctor with god knows what resistant hospital germs on him?

OK, thanks Boonie, now I have to become an Airatarian...at least I think that's what they're called. They don't believe that we have to eat or drink, that we can survive on air and sunshine alone. *sigh* I so used to love to eat.
