Ooops, sorry, no disrespect meant! I didn't even know the Queen was married! How come I never hear anything about him? And how come if he's married to the Queen he's still a Prince and not a King? So Princess Royal/Anne is Charles sister huh?

Re: A thread for the non brits!

Sorry Rich, but many people think that the British are bad cooks. Both my parents are British by the way.

I will say that during my visit last year, I did see an improvement. It used to be that the veg was so over-cooked you could mash it, and the meat was also overcooked and on the grissly side. I was very impressed with how the Brits have started embracing other cuisines - Mexican, Thai, Italian and Spanish etc.
I used to ask my relative why they didn't visit the continent with it being so close, the response was always "Why would we want to go there, their food is horrible". Now ALL of my relatives are taking weekend vacations to Spain, France and Belgium. They love it, even the food, and have changed the way they cook at home. Hubby and I also stayed at B&B's, and the breakfasts haven't changed - fried egg, fried bacon, beans, fried bread, fried sausage, cereal and toast ( one of the reasons that the British cuisine has been accused of being greasy, only this time I was happy it was, I gave the cereal, toast and beans a miss)

I have another question. Is the Queen much older than her hubby?

Prince Phillip is not a King, because our Queen is the daughter of our last real king. George VI. When she dies, then Prince Charles will become king, not Prince Phillip.

Its hard to put down in words, but only the offspring of the previous king will become the next queen / king. If George VI (the 6th) had had 2 daughters and a son, no matter how old the son, he would have been the next king. Even if younger than the eldest Daughter. If the king didnt have a son (which is what happened with King George), then the eldest daughter is made Queen.

Does that make any sense what so ever?

Hmm, I'm not sure. So are you telling me there will never be a King and Queen at the same time who are a married couple? If so, then you just ruined all the fairy tales I knew as a child.

You have a good point about the vegetables. They did used to be so so over cooked, but we are getting used to it now

There is a joke, that mums on Christmas day used to boil the Brussel Sprouts for 2-3 hours. Thus turning them to mush.

No, there will be a king and queen. Just not if the Queen is the descendent to the previous king / queen.

When Prince charles becomes King, then his wife will become Queen. But if / when he dies, then Prince William will become King. Marriage doesnt mean anything to it at all.

Is that any clearer? (probably not)

They made you eat Brussel Sprouts on Christmas day!

Yea, British "Cuisine" is kind of a joke here. But, you your defense, Old Southern Cooks here in the US also cook their veggies too long and they put fat back in everything and eat lots of fried foods!

I think I got it. Man I never realized it was so darned complicated!

Brussell Sprouts are part of the traditional Christmas Day dinner.

No, if / when that happens, Williams wife will be come queen, and Charles wife will be something else. Normally, she would have been known as the "Kings Mother". This is getting too complicated. Because Camilla isnt Williams mother.

A couple of yours ago our current queens mum died, and she was always known as the "Queens Mother". THe QUeens mother was George the VI widow.

I am so getting confused now. I just dont know what Camilla will be referred to as. If Charles dies before she does. my brain hurts.

I am sure you will get King Charles head on your money. Its the main man / woman that is the important one.

Bottom line, our Queen is only Queen because she didnt have a brother.
