With all this record heat, it made me wonder - Does everyone have some kind of air-condition?

Re: Air Conditioning
We have window units, one in the bedroom and one in the living room. We close off all of the rooms we are not using and only cool small sections of the house that we are in. We would literally die here w/o it!

Re: Air Conditioning
We dont have air con as such, but we do work in a building which has won awards for design regarding to cooling.
A large proportion of the windows are electronic and are opened when the temperature in the building reaches a certain hear, and closing when the temperature is again at a certain heat.
Its won awards for its energy efficiency + environment friendly stuff.
It actually works aswell.sigpic260/215/180 Male - 36 y/o
It never ceases to amaze me of how easy and how effective this ***diet*** is!!
I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

Re: Air Conditioning
I'm gone from home probably 13-14 hours a day between two jobs, so I turn it off. I have a lot of shade around the house and the downstairs hasn't been THAT bad. Upstairs is a different story though....ick. I try not to turn it on until about 10:00 and leave it on during the night so I can sleep.
Today is supposed to be the end of the bad heat here for a while.

Re: Air Conditioning
I think I would die without AC! Even though mine is under the window by the side of the bed, and sometimes likes to switch itself on at night, and pretend it's a jumbo taking off (it's terrible!) In addition to the noise, it likes to REALLY power itself. For the first few months, I'd wake up thinking I was being blown out of bed...no kidding!Steph - Age: 24 yrs - Height: 5'4" - Original Weight: 170 lbs - Current Weight: 155 lbs - Goal Weight: 120 lbs - STAC

Re: Air Conditioning
LOL Steph. Our bedroom is like a wind tunnel! We have a window air conditioner that runs all night, plus a ceiling fan and an oscillating fan. I can't sleep if there is no "wind" and that is true even in the winter! We don't heat the bedroom, we close the door and turn on the fans and use several comforters, I like to sleep in a very cool temp.

Re: Air Conditioning
I don't know how we survived as kids. Growing up, we didn't have air-conditioning. We had window fans. And, huge ones, at that! I literally wilt now if I'm left in the heat too long. Needless to say, I have air-conditioning too!
Is it me, or does it seem like the window units are priced way better than they used to be?Dawn

Re: Air Conditioning
I think that 100 bucks just doesn't seem like as much money as it used to Dawn.
I know what you mean though. We didn't have air conditioning at school either! Now if the air conditioning breaks down they send the kids home from school! I can't get over that! Pansy's.

Re: Air Conditioning
when we moved in this house it had no central heat or cooling ...the first winter we almost froze to death had to put blankets on the windows ...so I researched and found a contractor who put in the best investment we have ever made ...it is a heating cooling pump OMG ..silent, clean and perfect temp ...we had to cash in my retirement to do it so I have to work until I die now!!! ..but who cares ...it is comfortable and really inexpensive to run, the temp is perfect and the house stays relatively dust free (nice because we live on a dirt road) ...

Re: Air Conditioning
Neither did we! We had windows. I remember one of my teachers brought a fan from home to cool our classroom down. That was a treat.Originally posted by MotherOfGizmoI

Also, the family car was air conditioned by opening all the windows while Dad or Mom drove!!!!~Megs~

Re: Air Conditioning
So was ours! Only my parents had those, I'll call them, cigarette windows, the little triangle ones that only cracked opened. So, we'd have the window blowing for all its worth in the backseat, enjoying our hair whipping around one minute - and the next we'd be doing the jumpy, jumpy dance 'cause mom's cigarette just flew out her little window and in our back window!Originally posted by not2latethe family car was air conditioned by opening all the windows while Dad or Mom drove!!!!
No wonder the vinyl backseats had so many cigarette holes in it.

Re: Air Conditioning
LOL, we had those windows too, but we didn't call them "cigarette" windows, no one in my family smoked, they were "wing" windows! Actually I wish they still put them in cars, You could open the big window and then use the little wing windows to direct the air flow so it didn't beat in your face.

Re: Air Conditioning
I live in Arizona and we'd probably die without one. Up until this year we used an evaporative cooler, but we finally broke down and bought the biggest window unit we could find because during monsoon season the evaporative cooler doesn't do anything but blow hot air around.Started June 11, 2006
