  • balancing check books....

I just have to say, I hate balancing my check book. My hubby needs to have his fingers removed.

    And how is your day?

    Re: balancing check books....

Hummm, let me guess...he's been using his debit card or ATM use without jotting down his withdrawls! My DH used to do that and it would drive me crazy when I'd try to balance!

      Re: balancing check books....

LOL I didn't konw people actually balanced chequebooks? that's funny..I pay my bills, then I keep checking my account balance every now and again on the web to avoid the embarrassment of getting 'insufficient funds' at the checkout at a store. When i'm starting to run out..i try not to take out money or shop as often

Usually a couple of days before payday I check the balance and nothing is left so i can't buy anything...then i get paid and the whole system starts all over again.

I never use cheques now that I think about it. I think i've got a whole box of new ones that have never been opened. I do everything on the web now. it's so convenient.

You got it, Sheshy....the man is unable to be trained to mention a debit or even bother to put the reciept on the fridge.

Sadie...you scare me ....lol... ours is balanced once a week, or atleast check to make sure the bank is on the right track as we are.

After an hour of working through the "problem" and realizing the cause of the "problem" (said hubby), I suddenly think a nice frosty drink with a little umbrella would be nice right about now. *sigh*

I like the way you think

I'm just curious if any of you use internet banking? I'm not kidding when I say I don't use cheques....all of my bills and banking is done online. I can't remember the last time i even walked into a bank. The money comes out instantly and I know my balance at all times because when i use the machine, it gives me the balance after my withdrawl.

Thanks Jen I figure it it easier than balancing anything

my husband pays all the bills online now no envelopes no stamps he just does bank transfers...even for his business he only goes to the bank if he gets checks from someone who has not made a credit card purchase from him ..then he just goes once a week to make the deposit that is it... I did the money thing for the first 15 years and screwed it up constantly because I never wrote anything down ...one day I just gave it all to him and said "My turn is over!!!" and he took it ... and since then I have know clue about our finances my check is direct deposit and he pays the bills I have a cash card and when I run out I tell him to "give me more please" and if we have it he does! this arrangement makes me blissfully happy ...I hated getting stressed out over bills!

We don't use cheques for anything other than very large material purchases that would exceed our daily debit limit, laborer's wages and as a void one to start automatic payments.

We pay for everything with debit or cash, and bill payments are either done online or at the branch at the same time I'm in to make deposits. We have a fairly good idea of how much money is in there at all times, and when it starts getting empty we just fill 'er back up again. lol.

Online banking is easier, when the companies don't charge a fee for paying that way. I'd rather send a check and use a stamp then spend a couple of bucks having to pay on-line; it's that way for some of the utitlty payments. You'd think they'd want your money faster!

I don't mind doing the bills, its not a hassel to me...well, unless a certain person decides to use the debit card and not tell me!

That is what I do also. No more balancing checkbooks. The only thing I write out checks for are school fees and such as to have a record of them rather than sending cash. Everything else is paid by the bank and I have full record of them.

wow I'm surprised they charge you for internet banking, most banks push it because I think it's even easier for them as well. The only 'automated' thing we are charged for is using another banks ATM. Then your charged $1.25 (and i'm really bad for doing this). Oh and also when you use debit in a store, I think that's about $1 too.

                            Re: balancing check books....

I positively HATE balancing my checkbook. I only do it once a month, because I pay bills once a month by check. I'm just too afraid of doing business online, with so much cyber crime and ID theft going on out there. I use only Paypal online; it is linked to a limited funds account.

The bank charges nothing to use my ATM card in its own ATM, nothing to use as debit, or as visa (it isn't a visa but will work as one). I rarely use ATM's for other banks, as usually I can get cash back with a purchase from a store.

The store on the other hand, has to pay a fee for all debit card transactions w/or w/out cash back, and more for visa, more still for visa w/cash back. I'm puzzled why they agree to do cash back; some stores post minimum prchase amounts required to even use a card.

Actually i work in it with webservers and ssl web security stuff, and you're much more likely to have someone rip you off when you use your Visa in a restaurant, at a gas pump or by stealing you info out of your garbage can than you are getting ripped of by doing internet banking. If you trust paypal, and are using a reputible bank that has a certified interenet trust certificate such as Versign (a very common one) then don't worry about it. You can read your banks security info normally on their website, and even enquire about it if your still not sure. but any major bank is not going to go anywhere near online banking without reputable security. I'd say your more secure on internet banking than even paypal.
