  • Amazing Cloud over Pulaski, TN, last night

This photo shows an amazing cloud that was over Pulaski, TN, last night. The picture was posted on a local radio station's website. A lady in our office (the one who saw it) looked it up and found out that it is called an "anvil" cloud. I think it is pretty amazing! (Everyone who saw it thought it looked like the UFO in "Independence Day" or a mushroom cloud from an atomic bomb.)

That is beautiful, but I think it would have scared me a little bit at first, especially if it was in the direction of the Nuclear Power plant right up the road

That is pretty but I think I would freak if I seen it hovering over my house.

I just got two more pictures. These were taking by Mary, a lady in our office, on her cell phone last night in her backyard. She just uploaded them to the computer. (After previewing this I see that they are big pictures -- I'll try and get my DH to reduce them for me when I get home.)

A typical anvil cloud. They are usually accompanied by violent thunderstorms and hail. It is rare to see such a perfect one so you are lucky. I have a wodnerful laminated poster of an anvil cloud on my wall right in front of me! I'll try to find the link for it and post it.

I went back and reduced the pictures so they should be easier to view, I hope.

That is so cool! The last (only) time I've seen a cloud like that, I was almost to the rocky summit of a mountain in the Appalachians. The thing was turning and moving fast, and getting very dense. We busted our tails racing back down the trails to the parking area, and about 3 minutes later, in the car driving down the rest of the mountain, we got pummulted with marble-sized hail. 5 minute later, it had all vanished.
