I have lived in San Antonio.
I LOVED it. It's a beautiful city. Lots of culture, good nightlife, Access to numerous interstates. There's a lot more to the city than the riverwalk and Alamo, although those are great also. Alamo Heights, just north of downtown is a great old feeling neighborhood. The surrounding "suburbs" are also nice. Schertz is about 20 minutes north-ish, up I 35, and there are some nice pieces of land. It's well organized also. You've got the I410 loop and then the Route 1604 loop and they pretty much contain the entire metro San Antonio area.
