Since living overseas, and I'm sure you can say the same thing Tamariah , I've really realized more and more that families are all the same. All families want peace and security and a happy and healthy way to raise their children and live in peace.

Humans are the same everywhere. No one is better than another.

It took me a while before I got around to finding this video but I'm proud to say I was a part of the 9/11 celebration. Visit http://www.whitehouse.gov/september11/index.html# click on the video link that says "The White House observes a moment of silence on the south lawn." I'm the Navy flag bearer.

              Re: 9/11

In the UK they showed documentries the week running up to the anniversary and I watched a few of them. It upsets me STILL to see the those unbelievable images of chaos, terror and sadness that happend 5 years ago. Although I did not know or was connected to anyone involved, tears poured down my face for everyone who was affected and the of stories the people of New York and further, shared with us.
Why has the person behind this not been brought to justice? Bush has had 5 years and yet it feels like nothing else has happend except to highlight that terrorism is STILL growing and effecting countries around the world. The only reason that Bush needed to go to the Middle East in the beginning was to find Osama Bin Laden. Now everything seems out of control and British and US soldiers are dying in battle.

Terrorism needs to be stamped out. But how, I dont know. Why is there terrorism? Why do certain religions have a hatred against the West? Why are inncoent people being killed? Why are our cities being bombed?

All we want is to live in peace. But how can we if this war on terror is never-ending.

                Re: 9/11

maybe this post will offend some readers, but I'm speaking my mind anyways , as this whole thing about terrorism, Middle East, Bush, etc etc is really getting to me, and so here is my post! Don't say I didn't warn you!

I also have the same questions as you do. I'm sick of hearing about terrorism, and hatred and wars as well.

Personally, I don't feel there is any one religion that has hatred against the West. In any relgion, society, group, etc etc you have differences of opinions. If you come here to the Middle East you will see that things are done differently here, but I wouldn't say that people here bluntly hate the West. There are many people from this part of the world who continue to value Western education, this country I'm living in now (The United ARab Emirates) has requested the knowledge and skills of western education indivduals to come and they are the ones who were leading the banks in this country, the government institutions, healthcare, hospitals, schools, universities, but do to the motivation and desire for the Emirati citizens to take more control over their own country, you find more of these places being held by Emiratis themselves, which is faiir in my eyes as this is their country after all.

You go to any mall here you find all western things, mixed with local stuff (i.e. local perfume shops, for example, and also shops which sell national clothing (Islamic style), and many other local stores).

I think people in this part of the world are just tired of the constant colonialism and bombardment of their lands by Europe and now the west. And of course the Israel problem does not help in the least bit.

Politically, people in this region do see an incredible bias against them on the part of the west, in favour of Israel, and I know this does anger people (not to say this to support terrorism of course).

But you know ... at the end of the day, a bomb is a bomb is a bomb.

In Iraq, the USA have used a banned substance called "white phosporus" against the people in Fallujah for instance, for example. To me, as a pacifist, I see this as terrorism. I've seen a few videos taken place in Fallujah and the bodies definitely carry signs of the effects from white phosphorus. How do the people in Iraq feel about these things? Is that not terrorism too? Or terrorism is only committed by non-European/ non western states?

I've seen many articles and stories about families being raided in the middle of the night by both USA and Iraqi forces and being treated in the most inhumane ways. What is the purpose for this?

Then you get instances where recently a 14 year old girl had her family slaughtered and then she was raped by a few US solders and then killed and her body burned.

How many more storeis are like this to be told and heard about?

The stereotypes about this region of the world is really far reaching. It amazes me at some of the questions that I get asked, about living here and what is it like? Questions like "are you allowed to drive", "does your husband beat you", etc etc. Thanks to the media and the current political storms going around, this region of the world have really had a bad stereotype made against them. I will never say any place or culture / society is perfect because no where is perfect.

Last summer my husband and two kids and I travelled to Jordan and Syria. Wow, the Syrian people were the warmest and most kind hearted people I've ever met. So original and so humble at the same time. Had I listened to some of my family about our plans to go there, I never would have made it to Syria.
I know that the US Embassy was just stormed a few days ago by some men with guns, which probably sheds very negative light on the situation there, but I try not to judge an entire country on the works of a few individuals.
And the same thing goes for Jordan, where they just had that attack on the tourists near the amplitheatre in Amman.

But if you read history, you will know that even before the Crusaders came, this place / region was always a land of turmoil. Perhaps it is because there are many beautiful historical / holy places, but I think now it is because of the oil and also the Israeli situation as well.

Sorry for rambling on and on, but one last thing, I just hope that this whole situation clears up because the level of trust is really dwindling down on all sides and I just hope that peace can come about before things become too ugly. I personaly don't think having GWB in power in the USA is helping at all.

                  divaindubai,

Thank you sooooo much for your insight. It is truly great to know these things from you. I ask you too to not stereotype Americans by what our President & Goverment has done. I, for one, and many others have dissaggreed with all of their actions and are embarrassed by them. Embarrassed doesn't even cover it. I'm mad. I feel guilty and they are out of control, in my opionion. Yes, our government are just terrorists with more $$$ and weapons.

For all, the most moving editorial I heard this past 9/11 can be found here. I don't agree we should rebuild Ground Zero quickly (it's just going to be a target for all crazies still) but everything else that is said I do agree with. divaindubai I didn't find your post offensive at all. Thank you for sharing your opinion.
I'd like to add that I think its sad that large groups/religions are often judged by the actions of a few. I believe that there is good and bad in every country/religion/race and we should look to the individual person within and not the outside.
What is it - don't judge a book by its cover?
We do need peace. It makes me sick to watch the news (which is why I usually don't) and see all the sadness and hate in the world.

divaindubai, thank you for that post. I wasnt offended. That is horrible about what the US soldiers are doing. It isnt right.

Lady - I am the same as you. I try not to watch the news cos all it brings is sadness, another bomb has gone off somewhere, killing innocent people. When will it all stop?

I just hope that it never comes close to home. London was close enough and luckily none of my mates who live there were involved. But it still killed people. And for what reason?
