  • Are you a plant murderer? ;-)

In my 'green beans' post, Not2late got me thinking about gardening. Which reminds me of my attempts at growing plants...or trying to.

My Mom was joking with me about my bad luck with plants. She called me a "plant murderer" ROTFL.

Last summer, I tried growing basil in a large pot...it's a brown twig now I also tried chives, but all I got were super thin green strings

I have an aloe plant and an evergreen-type plant that are still alive though...but they are very low-maintenence.

How about you all...who's got a green thumb, and who's got a not-so-green thumb?

Trees and shrubs....and roses. I can't grow them. I do better with plants that require little attention.

I'm totally with you ~ i am a plant murderer too. LOL. That is so funny...

I like the "idea" of plants and being Martha Stewartesque, however, it just doesn't happen for me. Maybe i need one of those hot muscular guys to come and tend to my garden, like you see in the movies... but oh, that requires a huge *ss load of money, right?

This is how bad I am: I actually killed lucky bamboo. I thought those things could make it through anything. Guess not.

I'm a plant murderer also. When I was 19, I was hired to housesit for 2 months, and the most important job I had while I was house sitting was to water the plants. I wasn't very successful, and I wasn't asked to housesit again.

I used to be the plant doctor. Everyone would bring their dried up old plants to me for help. I'd keep them a few weeks, nurse them back to health and then they'd return to their rightful owners. But, I turned into a murderer. When I had my surgeries, I'd tell the family to go in and water the plants, set them in the sun, then return them to their places in the evening. Well, I don't think they did, cause when I checked on them after a few weeks, they were pitiful looking and few died. I love plants. They make the home look so nice and they give me a good feeling.

I can grow vegetables fine - at least the ones that only really need to live for a few months, you harvest the crop, then they're allowed to die. Grapevines and blueberry bushes also did well, but my rhubarb was pitiful and so called perennial herbs all died after a year or two. My Lucky Bamboo still lives amazingly, and DH has one plant that is "HIS" (that I'm not allowed to touch!) that has survived 14 yrs.

FORGET roses, flowering shrubs, houseplants or even hanging baskets. I even killed my cactus and succulents - probably the only plants I remembered to water and they weren't the ones who needed it.

My Mom is really good with plants in her garden. Except one time, she wanted to grow corn. Every time the little sprouts came out of the ground, the blue jays would come down and eat them...thinking they were worms, I guess. So she gave up on corn.
