After I read the first article "Cellphone Stall Tactics", I can't stop laughing!! I definitely would have flushed, but I am evil.

Note to self: NEVER borrow anyone's cellphone....you don't know where it's been!

As to the second letter, I can sympathesize completely. For a 3 year period I would be invited to a child's first or second birthday party. I know the parents or at least one of the parents. Fine. The hook was you had to show up with a birthday gift for the child. Okay, that's reasonable...I guess. But then I got a invitation to a birthday party for a 3 year old. "Cash only". That was it. No more. Find someone else to extort a gift from.....

It's rather rude to expect a gift...IMO, a card is just fine.

What would a 3 year old need "cash only" for? Some nerve those parents had!

Very true. I was chatting with one of my girlfriends once, and then I heard the toilet flush.... EWW!

I told her ew too, and she said "I had to pee!" That doesn't make it any less gross!

I'm always tempted to make really awful sounds while people are on the cell phone in a public restroom. I mean, fart noises are good, but how about puking noises? Even better in my opinion.

Regarding the invite issue: My ghettofabulous ex-neighbors sent out wedding invites that said "monetary gifts only please". OMG!

I think a loud, squirty (preferably spraying) fart would mortify the person on the cell phone That, followed by repeated flushing!! ROTFL...sorry I get so giggly thinking about it!

It's kinda like saying if you don't give cash, they won't appreciate your gifts, isn't it? Whatever happened to the thought being counted in a gift?

Yes, Miss Manners has addressed the second issue queried in varieties of ways.

                - we're hoping to do investments - can we specify we want the guests to buy stocks (or whatever the inventment)
                - we have enough (whatever) - we only want cash

                and on it goes

I agree with her answers. It is rude and ridiculous to tell invited guests what types of gifts to get, especially when it is "money only" types of requests. Gift registries are one thing (and I'm not sure she's addressed that exactly), but saying that thought-out gifts are out of the question, while cheques, money orders and the like are preferred. When was a wedding, shower or birthday party a fund raising event?
