  • Need medical advice..Sort of??

Last week I went to a new doctor who ordered some tests done and I am supposed to go back in one month for the results. The problem is really nothing big so it's not a matter of life or death but there was a problem.
As he was leaving the dressing room he made a smart assed remark towards me, my diet, and they way I am losing weight.

So we had words and he half way apoligized but not before I told him that if we were out on the street I would put an *** whippin on him that Ajax wouldn't get off. Those were my exact words and it made his eyes get big and he got real nice.

Anyway he said see you in a month so my question is should I go back to him or have the records sent to another doctor. My wife says I should go back because he knows what he was looking for by calling for the tests.
My contention is that I know enough about the problem and their will be enough information in his notes that another doctor can step in and make a call on the diagnosis.

So am I missing something and I should go back, or am I right and I should go to another doctor?

Sorry to ask such a dumb question but I have a real good record off always making the wrong decision on matters like this so I usually will defer to my wife but this time I feel like I am in the right.

Do not go to a dr that you are not comfortable with. Thats my feeling. Id have told him to plant his lips on my white arse and walked out.

It's not a dumb question! There is so much abuse by doctors ,because so many people accept everything doctors say as the last word. I have found most doctors don't like it when a patient thinks for themselves in anyway. I speak from experience, I have RA, and have delt with quite a few docs. I would go back for my results, and if after I still felt uncomfortable I would ask for copies of my test results, and find someone else.

I agree with Tired and Pru...it's important to have a doctor you feel comfortable with. If my doc was disrespectful to me, I'd go looking for a new, more professional doctor. If your doc doesn't agree with your Atkins WOL, there's no reason he couldn't tell you in a respectful, unbiased manner.

I'd go to another dr now, explain what's happened and say that you want them to deal with your results from this point on.

other then his smart comment have you been happy with the relationship and treatment you have recieved? do you think you will again feel comfortable with that doc even after your disagreement or will it be hanging in the room between you guys from now on? if the based on how you answer those questions you will know if it is time to get a new doc or not.

I hadn't had a relationship with him before my other doctor left town so I just picked this guy from the phone book(Asbury). Maybe I'll go a few letters down next time..Just kidding.

go back for your test results.....get the results....have another doctors office already picked out. When you are talking with this doctor - after he gives you your results and at the end of the appointment - tell him why you won't be coming back then get a copy of your files and have them transferred to the new doctor.

Can you ask around - friends? Family? to recommend a new doctor? Maybe find an Atkins friendly doctor? Call your old doctors office and see who they recommend.

                        good luck

OK OK I can not keep my mouth shut on this one...why on earth would you

                          1. say this to a health care provider you want to stay with? "So we had words and he half way apoligized but not before I told him that if we were out on the street I would put an *** whippin on him that Ajax wouldn't get off. Those were my exact words and it made his eyes get big and he got real nice."

                          2. stay with them if you do not trust them? ..you not only had a fit about his opinion on the subject of our diet but you were kind of a bully about it ..if you said that to me in my place of work..unless you were mentally ill...I would for sure have issue with you coming to see me again...

it is not ok to talk to people like that..if you are talked to in a rude manner by a healthcare provider you have the option of leaving them on the spot and contacting the adminstation....if we as healthcare providers get bullied by you ..we have little recourse unless you commit a threatening act...I call what you said threatening and would have reported you for that kind of behavior..

it is easy to fire a provider...but not as easy to fire a patient ....

health care is about trust and mutual respect ..if you have no trust or respect for your doctor then leave ..but do not think that kind of behavior accomplished anything but hurt feelings and yeah shocked behavior...

so what if he does not agree? really? you have options in life ....

ok there you have it ...good luck

Well I almost totally agree with but when someone calls me a fata$$ the way this doctor did and there is not a smile on his face I do take it personal and if it happend again I would offer to kick the dog-crap out of him once again.
