Counting Sex

Okay, so I know the subject line got your attention , and this is going to be kinda out there, but something got ---->my attention the other day. I am really picky about what my children watch and hear on TV, and a couple days ago I noticed that the word "SEX" is said many time through out the day every day on TV especially on the news. We want our children to know and learn what is going on in the world but at the same time, we want to shelter them because this world can be a cruel, harsh place. Now here's the thing<-----start at which ever point you like during the day, morning is the best time, and count how many times the word "SEX" is said. My feeling is, everyday normal tv programs say it a lot, how interesting isn't it? Let me know what you think or if I am just crazy.....

Hee hee. I thought you were going to ask how many calories you could burn during sex. LOL

OK, sorry, i don't have an answer for you on this one, but I was really shocked at a commercial I saw the other day. I don't remember what it was for, but I know I would have been really embarassed if my mother had been sitting in the room with me. It ended with a trail of clothing leading to the bed, and two people rolling around together on it. Um...hello! This was not a cable television channel. I thought this was much worse than the Janet Jackson boobie incident.

I know exactly what you mean about those things being said/shown on TV.

Here in the UAE there are many things which are censored, including the internet, but obviously things like satellite TV channels cannot be censored, but nonetheless it sure helps to reduce the amount of sexual language and content that young viewers can get their hands on.

Even that "you tube.com" website is blocked on here. Obviously there are ways of downloading "other" material, but I don't really think that it is as easily accessible to youngsters and teens as otherwise.

before the discussion gets too far along (and goes who knows where) lets remember that there is no age limit for viewing this thread. we do have members ranging from teens on up.

I know it seems TV and movies seem to get worse all the time.

I'm one that doesn't like a lot of cussing or nudity and found a site that will tell you the content of just about every movie. It gives you how much violence, cussing, sex/nudity, etc. is in a movie so you can be informed before you see it.

Thanks Kat! You know how hard it is to find a movie the whole family can watch? This should help (and avoid those moments when I sit there, cringeing on the couch aplogizing "I didn't know, I didn't know" - lol)

In Norway the commercials that pop up once in a while shock me - here its normal - no biggie if you grow up here, but for me, and American
I was watching TV and this comercial for Nilla (kinda like the dollar store in the USA) comes on and its a bunch of men hold balloons or big beach balls and they look like they have nothing on behind the balloons - the balloons are tossed around and then at the very end of the comercial they were put to the side or tossed away - I can't remember which, but what I do remember is that those men WERE naked! I about fell out of my chair.

Here in the UK bad language and sex are supposed to be after 9pm, and they do tend to stick to that. But some of the soaps do stretch the rules from time to time!!

I've also noticed on Sky Movies that if a film rated 12 or over is shown before 8pm then you have to use your PIN to watch - which is good.
