  • lottery winnings - how would you spend yours?

    Hi

I've just been checking our lottery numbers (we didnt win!!) and noticed that the Euro Lottery we have here in the UK is another roll-over, so this Friday someone could be the lucky winner of £75 million pounds!!! (approx us$135 mil)

How would you all spend it???

I would have to treat myself to some nice fast cars, then some really fancy houses to park them outside - Plus I would love one of those mansions in South Beach Miami, with a big fancy boat berthed at the bottom of the garden!!

    Oh to dream.......

      Hurrah!

I'm not interested in accumulating material possessions for myself.

I would set up Atkins Diet groups all over the UK with paid facilitators, and run a series of TV adverts aimed at carb-addicted people who have struggled on low-fat diets all their lives.

I'd make a TV series like You Are What You Eat but, obviously, with Atkins being the way out of the trap instead of disgusting spinach "milkshakes". Oh, and the presenter would be kind and understanding, not a bullying old witch.

I would pay of my mortgage, travel the world for a couple of years. Invest majority of it, and then see what happens next.

Well I took the dollar that I won and bought another ticket and then lost. I then gave up that crazy gambling lifestyle.

I'd buy a hugely obscene house with lots of bedrooms for visitors. I'd pay my debts, buy some silly things then travel a bit and invest a lot of it.

I would love to pay off my family and friends mortgages (after I paid of my own of course). I wouldn't buy a big house or anything i don't think. Maybe a nice car, travel, definately quit my job. I hate ppl that win the lottery and say in the interview 'no i'm not quitting my job'. Yeah, ok whatever. They wouldn't be getting any two weeks notice from me. I'd be gone the next day LOL.

I'd probably buy maybe a little bar or restaurant. i can't see myself not doing anything at all. I'd love to be my own boss.

Re: lottery winnings - how would you spend yours?

I wouldn't get a "big house" but my house would be exactly how I want it. I'd want a huge shower with jets coming from every direction. I'd want a giant cast iron bath tub. My kitchen would have a cast iron range with 6 burners, and I'd have an oven large enough to make 4 turkeys if I wanted to.

I'd want a hot tub right outside the sliding glass door from my bedroom. We'd have a swimming pool, a steam room, a sauna. We'd have a really fabulous workout room. A dining room big enough to entertain mine and hubbies families combined (would need to be a big room). I wouldn't want too many extra bedrooms because I don't want too many overnight guests. I'd have a place to have a beautiful garden, and when I cook for family and friends, I'd say "This spaghetti squash, zucchini, spinach, herbs, raspberries, etc came fresh from my garden".

Honestly, I think I'd go to culinary arts school, and open up a cooking school out of my home, where people could come and take cooking classes. I'd teach people how to make delicious low carb meals. Or maybe I'd rather open a small cafe where the food is always fresh and delicious, and the menu changes daily.

I think I'm getting carried away....

I don't know how the pay-out is done in Europe, but here in the US, you can choose to have it in one lump sum or in a series of pay-outs over years.

I would opt for the big lump sum...easier to just pay the taxes at once.

For spending, I would give some to my family members, give some to a few charities, and for myself:

                      1. I would set up a retirement fund.
                      2. Buy property. A house for myself---nothing too large. I would also buy investment properties: apartments, office buildings, parking lots, etc.
                      3. Buy an RV (Recreational Vehicle) and drive around the country.

In England Megs, you just get a one off payment. And I dont think its taxed.

We're lucky here, we don't get taxed on lottery winnings ..so if you win 30 million..you get 30 million. I've heard in the US the taxes are really high? . though of course here you'd get taxed on any interest made on it depending on how you invest it, so a financial planner is a must!

I would pay off my college loans, my boyfriend's college loans, pay off my parent's mortgage, buy my boyfriend a new truck, and save save save and invest invest invest!

I would start college funds for when I have children, and also donate money to my alma mater for a scholarship.

No fancy houses or boats for me...I just want to be out of debt!
