  • Holland to ban full Islamic dress for women

Holland has for a long time been one of the most liberal societies in Europe - but look at this story:

    Netherlands to propose burqa ban

The Dutch cabinet has backed a proposal by the country's immigration minister to ban Muslim women from wearing the burqa in public places.

The burqa, a full body covering that also obscures the face, would be banned by law in the street, and in trains, schools, buses and the law courts.

The cabinet said burqas disturb public order, citizens and safety.

Immigration minister Rita Verdonk is known for her tough policies, and has clashed with past coalition partners.

It's quite funny how they allow the complete opposite (well of course not in their streets), with semi-naked women waving from the windows in the Red light district......(not that I've been there before but I've heard that is the case)

Its sad when folks can't practice their religion in peace. Wasn't it the Dutch who all put the Star of DaviD in their windows when the ****'s came thru.

Its a complete shame that this is happening and this just places more fuel on the fire in the Middle East. I have a very good friend who is a Dutch priest (assigned to Spain and visiting the US this week). I will ask him what he thinks.
Golden Rule is still a standard with me and it works for Christians, Jews, Muslims and many other Faiths.

              ((hey nelson))

Ur right, God help us here in the Middle East with all the fuel that has already been lit up....

Here you see all kinds of women, some wearing burqa, many only wearing hijab (with hair covered), and many uncovered women. It's just a piece of cloth for God's sake, why do people get all frazzled over a woman covering herself up completely. I do agree that it does put up some kind of barrier against them, as far as you don't feel as comfortable talking to one of the women in a burqa as it does disguise their faces practically, and I'm not saying that to be disrespectful to them or anything, but naturally these kinds of dress would do that (put up some kind of barriers with others). If that is the case, then so be it.

I always thought the Dutch were more open minded and liberal than that.

Re: Holland to ban full Islamic dress for women

Well I spoke with Fr. William and he mentioned that yes, the Dutch are known to be openminded and more liberal than other European countries, but he said that there had been a terrible murder and I think I understood that a person had been wearing a burqa with the weapon. Don't know if it was a woman or a man wearing the burqa. So their parliment took the very strong measures. Also he mentioned France had done the same thing.

I still don't like the idea. This is weird because I am a US citizen and most are suspicious. We have a lage amount of Muslims living near me. And when I go to the market etc.. the women are very nice and we speak quite often. Yes there are boundries, because of the treatment Muslims are receiving in the US because of 911.
Usually when the women have their children near, they are in high protection mode, as all mothers should be.
