  • Strange diets tried.....

Hi guys, I am in the middle of filling out paper work for my doctor and he wants to know what attempts I've made to lose weight over the years - I know I have tried every "diet" crazy or not thats come along over the years - but I can not remember the names of them all.
I have down......Slimfast, Shaklee, Cambridge diet, low fat diets, grapefriut diet, diet pills given to me by doctors, weight watchers, cabbage soup diet.....and I know that there are more crazy one's out there!
Can you name the one's you know? Maybe it will turn a light bulb on in my brain!
    Thanks

Yes I will end my paper work with I'm not on a diet any longer. I am living Atkins

Brian Redhead, a famous BBC Radio announcer once quipped, when reporting the latest fad, "I've only come across one diet that works: it's called the "Ear Half" diet."
Atkins didn't say 'Calories don't count',
    he said, 'Don't count calories.'

My parents would do this 2 day diet where they ate a lot of beets and baked apples...but I have NO idea what it was called. They'd also do the Mayo Clinic Diet, and the Scarsdale Diet, and Weight Watchers.

I remember once wanting to diet as a teenager, and my mom telling me that as far as she knew, I could eat anything I wanted, and as much of it, as long as it didn't have any fat in it. For instance, I could eat 75 cans of green beans and not gain an ounce because there was no fat in it. Then I read in a book "Remember, cows get fat eating grass...." well, that threw that one in the crapper.....

Just the typical diets, including the ones you've heard of and probably have tried already. There was this 1-2-3 thing me and my friends used to try in high school. We could eat 3 bites of any one thing, but thats it. We could eat 3 bites of cake, 3 bites of a burrito, even 3 bites (gulps) or full sugar soda. If we did this all day, then we could indulge in great tasting foods and not gain weight. It didn't work well.

I never said teenagers were smart!

OH How funny,chasin2kids! Then I read in a book "Remember, cows get fat eating grass...." well, that threw that one in the crapper.....

That sentence made me laugh. Because we all know that all those attempts at losing weight got thrown into the crapper, until we changed our mindset. We have to eat the Atkins way from now on, if we want to succeed and continue to keep the weight off, for lifetime. We have to exercise and drink our water. We follow Dr Atkins teachings and we have the answers.

Tamariah, I also tried a Stillman Diet, Protein Power, Carbohydrate addict, and Hampton diet. There are a few more that I haven't tried. Susanne Summers diet, Dr Oz has a new diet too, not to forget Dr Phil's diet too. Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem.

Do any of these ring a bell for you, tamariah?

There's that horrid one that is supposed to be some medical diet, endorsed by the American Heart Association - but they deny it. It is very salty and I certainly couldn't live on it.

Of course, you mentioned the cabbage soup diet
              The Scarsdale Medical Diet
              The Grapefruit Diet

And, oh, so many variations of the "eat only one food" diet

              The Beverley Hills Diet
The "F" Plan diet (and, no, the "F" only stands for fibre, not something else, although I'm sure many people were swearing by the time it was over)

How about Eat Right for Your Type, or the Hay Diet? Food Combining. I recently tried the Hibernation Diet (a vomit-inducing amount of honey before bed. It sounds mad now!) Urgh, there are so many! And they are mostly rubbish...

Then there's liquid protein diet (GAG), there's the "Skin and Bones" diet celebrities use (Drugs, I think), Phen-phen, juice fasting, and no list should be complete without mentioning Hoodia... GARBAGE. All of it!

I did every diet that was out there. Aydes candy, mushroom diet (you took a japanese mushroom and kept it in water), WW, Richard Simmons meal a deal, 3 day fast, starvation, liquid, Slimfast, 1600 calorie diet - low fat, chicken soup diet, over the counter pills, vinegar diet, juicing. I'm sure there are more, but can't remember them all right now.

                        Shangra-la diet

I don't know the whole scheme, but it has something to do with leaving a two hour window of non-eating, and in the middle of it you either take a tablespoon of oil or a sugar solution.

Apparently, you also combine wierd spices and sprinkle on your food, so that the flavour you receive is not what your mind anticipates. Sounds far-fetched, but then again, so do lots of others.

Did lots of the diets mentioned here... and also tried a self-hypnosis tape (if that can be called a diet!!). Not sure if I altered my eating habits at all...too long ago for me to remember, but I did spend ages and ages repeating weight loss mantras. Maybe I lost a pound or so cos of the energy expanded in all those repetitions!!!
