Where is there mention of this thread being shut down? Its ok to go off topic in Chit Chat. Thats what Chit Chat is all about.

(unless of course the OP objects).

              Re: Rare eating disorder

It's too bad surgury isn't an option for those with the see-food eating disorder. Good thing they aren't smart enough to think about eating more things considered edible than just pet chow!

I have to wonder whether there isn't a simple solution to their eating problem that Doctors might not have tried. Here's my thinking - if ADHD hyperactivity is decreased by what to us is a powerful stimulant, might not something that would promote munchies in Norml (pardon the pun... ) actually work with the opposite effect, ie. give them pot?

HIJACKERS--It's fine! I'm the OP, I posted it in chit chat...I understand the occasional thread gets hijacked--in fact I contributed to it.

kram95--I think the article mentioned that those with this disorder DO in fact have a much slower metabolism...also mentioned patients have gained as much as 20-30lb. in a WEEKEND...oh my goodness...do you know what the survival/mortality rate is of those with this disorder? Is it typical to have a much shorter life span?

                  Re: Rare eating disorder

Seriously how do you gain 20-30 lb in one weekend? I mean is that the weight of the food in them combined with water weight?

                    Re: Rare eating disorder

I have no idea...that's a horrific idea to me...it must be a combination of calories, food weight, and water weight. And not to mention your bowels must get backed up with that much food...

                        Re: Rare eating disorder

I've just downed about 2 pounds of rare meat today - and although I could say I'm not yet satisfied, I had to stop because no more will fit (yet).

Now to avoid this looking too hijacked if you read the above as JU might (DID! )....what I mean is, how could it be physically possible to consume 30 pounds of fat's worth of food (we aren't talking 30 lbs of water!) without extreme physical pain? My belly aches now from binging on the ground london broil burgers!

Well we all know that the mind has power over the body...don't the patients lack the ability to tell whether or not they're full? The brain doesn't send/receive those signals from the body...?
