I was picked once but I was only 17 at the time, but in England you have to be 18 to sit on a jury.

      Re: Jury Summons

I've been called for jury duty three times, and all three times I've gotten out of it. The first two times I got out of it because I was in college, because my class schedule would not allow it. (Except the FIRST time I filled out the paperwork, I think I accidentally checked the box that said "mentally unfit" LOL...but still they kept summoning me, so I guess even crazy people make fit jurors?)

The third time I was summoned was a week before I was moving 2,000 miles away. So I think that one pretty much explains itself.

I hope I get picked, and I hope it's a murder trial. A woman scorned murders in cold blood her husbands lover. Wouldn't that be cool?

I guess so, unless it turns into some "12 Angry Men" thing and you're stuck there for like, 4 weeks.

                      Re: Jury Summons

I was selected three times. The first two were civil trials at the local level. The third was a criminal trial at the federal level. The criminal one was interesting to me b/c it was mostly about illegal drugs and I had never heard of crank, ice, and several others before. It was quite educational.

In each case, however, I saw part of society that I wished didn't exist. It's very sad how some people choose to live.

Yeah yeah, but spellcheck automatically fixes most things I type. Bad habit. Anyway, can you correct my spelling in the poll please?

                          Re: Jury Summons

The first summons I ever received I got selected to sit on Grand Jury. That was every wednesday for SIX MONTHS. We saw all the capital murder cases and it was VERY interesting experience.

The second summons I ever received was about 3 years later and I got selected in the jury pool for a murder case. When I got in the room and they told what the case was about--it was a case that I'd sat on the Grand Jury for. It was very odd that the case had taken that long to actually go to trial. I didn't want to contaminate the jury pool, so whenever they would ask if anyone knew the defendant or had inside information or what not, I'd raise my hand and say that I wanted to tell the judge I needed to answer in private...(grand jurys are supposed to be unidentified and sort of anonymous). You could see the defendant speaking with his attorneys and them asking him if he knew me, and him looking and shaking his head no. So, they finally allow me to approach the bench (with both attorneys, the court reporter and all) and I told them I sat on Grand Jury and the judge says "oh, you cannot be here" and had the bailiff escort me out.

I got selected and then dismissed after 2 days because it was a murder trial and they wantes jurors willing to rule the death penalty. Got paid 2 days, never called back since.
