Re: In Memory of My Best Friend ...
At this point everything is kind of jumbled around in my head, and I am remembering all the things about him over the years that made him special to me ...
When I was young I had a 1970 Mustang ... he loved to take rids in it! The passenger side door of that car had scratches all over the outside from him hanging his paws out. I would have to hold him back on turns fearing he would fall out of the window! He was so protective of that car too! He was a really cute dog especially when he was young. His tail curled up and he was nice and fluffy. One time I pulled up to the grocery store I worked at in high school. One of the ladies came out and started to fawn over him asking if she could pet him. Of course I said sure, knowing full well when she got within 5 feet of that car he would start barking ... and he did ... and she jumped 10 feet back.
He was always excited when someone would come home, needed your attention immediately. Well when he was younger he would come up to then take off running through the house, doing figure 8s around the foyer, living room, kitchen ... all hardwood floors. Real fun when he would stop ... slide =)
Of course he loved to play ... loved to play fetch, his style of course, had to wrestle the ball or toy away from him. He LOVED football. We had a few different ones we played with over the years. Every September when football would start on TV he would go outside and find his football .... you'd look over at the door and there he is standing there with it waiting for you =)
He loved to show off for people. When someone would come over he would find some toy or rawhide bone and run around with it. Throw it up in the air and catch it, swing his head around w/ it in his mouth, etc. If you praised him enough he would stop.
He liked to watch animals on TV, hated flashlights, ate his dinner slower than any dog I have ever seen. We would mix dry and canned food for him - he would lick his way around and get all the canned food out and leave the dry. Of course he loved to take walks, chasing squirrels and birds. He would sneak up and nip at the butt of any girl I ever brought home, until I met my wife. A fried of mine wrote to me "you can rest assured he bit St. Pete's *** as he went through the pearly gates". He wasn't crazy about kids, but he loved mine. Was gentle and obedient to them.
There are so many more, but this gives you an idea.
