      No, nobody does.

(but I have never said anything to little kids because of the problem with angry parents). Its good to keep oneself to oneself most of the time.

at the office I used to work at, they actually had a sign on the wall that said 'ladies, please remember to flush the toilet when you are done'. they had to because so many people were NOT flushing, that completely facinated me! Apparently they did not need the same sign in the mens room..

I flush the toilet with my foot actually, i haven't touched a public toilet handle in years

The one thing I lvoe is the new motion sensor taps and towel dispensers and toilets. you don't have to touch anything! except of course that friggin door handle that started this thread

I stare people down in the restroom who think they can leave without washing their hands. I also talk very loud to my DD's about how important it is to wash their hands while we're in the restrooms. I've been known to ask, "Oh, did you notice if the sink was working?" Sometimes small clues help...sometimes.

Oooh....I love those senson taps for the toilet, paper towel dispenser, and the sink! Now I wish they would just add the final touch: sensor opening doors!

Actually, research shows that you're WAY more likely to catch germs from the door handles and sink handles than you are from the toilet. Scientists have actually measured the amount of germs in the bathroom. The worst culprit are the handles of everything.

The only thing you're going to catch a germ from with regards to the toilet (unless you pee on yourself, I suppose), is when you flush. The bacteria in the water gets sprayed fairly far.

So, don't touch anything, and run out the door as fast as you can is my advice. :P

RichT, they covered this topic on the Soprano's once. Paulie was complaining about the fact that men pee all over the urninals and the floor, and your shoestrings get it all over them, you tie your shoes, it's digusting. He went on a tyraid for 2 - 3 minutes, and then said, have you ever seen a women's restroom, you could eat walnut ice cream off the floor, men are disgusting pigs.

                  I guess it's not just us....haha?

I agree with everyone else, I always grab the door handle with a paper towel and try for a quick exit behind someone else...haha

this is a bit of a spin off...but have you ever watched the people behind the counters at places like McDonalds or whatever - they will scratch their faces or pick their ears and then touch the food....omg. Once this guy was putting together a shake for me.....before he put the top on he scratched his ***. I kid you not. He scratched his *** and then picked up the top to my shake, put it on, got the straw, opened it and put it in the shake.
I asked for the manager.....told the manager what happened and demanded the manager wash his hands and make me a new shake. LOL Yeah I can be a bit of a bi tch.
I've also been known to tell adults to wash their hands in the bathrooms.

I do the "try-to-open-the-door-in-an-unusual-place" thing too...but it seems that if we all do that, maybe the handle would be comparatively untouched!

In Sicily (which is synonymous for chaos) they have one great thing: Most public loos have pedal flushers. Very civilised.

When it comes to things and places people touch before touching the food (like in restaurant kitchens etc), I can only hope that our taking in a few germs will also give us some antibodies. We need 'em!

A complete full circle from my original post though. If we all worried about germs, kitchens, door handles, etc I guess we wouldnt do or go anywhere would we.

                          Does that make sense?

It makes perfect sense. I try not to be too much of a germ-a-phobe. Everyone I know who is constantly hand sanitizing is always getting sick.

I grew up working in my family's restaurant, and they kept the place immaculently clean. Then after I got sick of working for my folks, I took a job bartending at another bar/restaurant, and I couldn't believe how dirty the place was. They let the employees smoke in the kitchen, right next to the no-smoking sign posted by the health department. I bet more restaurants lean towards dirty than they do clean.
