Has anyone else seen this? It features a clinic for the morbidly obese and the trials and tribulations of the patients.



I tell you, it's a real eye opener. I feel that it is by a mere matter of luck that I am not as big as some of those poor souls. I can certainly relate with their tales of addiction and lack of self control. What I didn't get was the self sabatoge and lack of concern a number of them seem to possess. Why put yourself in a clinic and not follow the rules? I suppose the addiction can be stronger than the will to live.

What I do know is this, it's hard to sit still while watching this. I was doing toning exercises before the program was over.

Paula, I caught part of it yesterday. It was a sad and shocking show...and I'm amazed at how the patients end up in those situations, weighing 500 pounds, 700 pounds, 900 pounds. One thing that I'm REALLY curious about is the diet program. The voiceover/narration said that each patient is on a 1200 calorie/day plan. WHAT!??? No wonder some of these people aren't losing weight. It seems like they should be feeding them WAY more than that, maybe something like 3000 calories? Then gradually wean them down to something more standard.

My other thought was, "I wonder how much it costs to be a patient at this place?" These people must be spending their life's savings.

I keep missing it. I've seen it once or twice just by luck of catching it when it is on. What channel and time does it run?

I saw it about a year ago. It followed the progress of several of the patients. Yes, it is an eye opener and I was shocked also at the attitude of some of the patients. The show I saw did have them under a very strict eating plan and they had people come in and exercise their arms and legs cause they couldn't stand up on their own. One guy was a preacher and his goal was to stand in front of his congregation again. At the end of the show he was back in his church and it was a very emotional experience. Until I saw the program, I didn't know such a hospital existed.

What confused me was that they let these people order take out from fast food restaurants and sabotage their diets. They were getting pizza and cheeseburgers delivered around the clock, all they had to do was go downstairs and pick it up after they called it in. I was confused to say the least.

I was also shocked at the low calorie count of the program. I'm a third of the weight of a lot of them and would be starving at 1200 calories.

Julie, I've seen several episodes and have seen the director fighting over the phone with various insurance companies. I'm sure that without insurance coverage, there would be no way the majority could afford it. A specially made wheelchair for one particular patient cost almost $9,000, if my memory serves me correctly!

Dream and Brady: Yes, it's the attitudes of some that really bugged me. I can't understand why they entered the clinic, just to rebel against the program. I remember the director saying that when he did try to ban the delivery of junk food, some found ways to smuggle it in and others left the clinic! He believes it's best to leave the decision of eating right and following the plan in their hands. I have mixed feelings on this.

Atkid: I haven't yet noticed any rhyme or reason for the showings. I know that several episodes were shown consecutively one day, then just one shown Monday. The channel is TLC; that much I can tell you!

Julie, I've seen several episodes and have seen the director fighting over the phone with various insurance companies. I'm sure that without insurance coverage, there would be no way the majority could afford it. A specially made wheelchair for one particular patient cost almost $9,000, if my memory serves me correctly! Paula was that the guy that said he would leave if he didnt get his wheelchair ASAP? It has been a few months since I watched it but i thought that guy was terrible. He kept saying I'll just go home. I think he was the biggest one there and he was making threats about leaving all the time. The one that needed to be there the most was the most rebelious.

I remember that guy, Brady. What a jerk! He reminds me of those kids who throw tantrums or hold their breath to get their way. They were doing the best they could to get him that chair and it just wasn't good enough. And what did he do when it got the blasted chair???? Why, he used it to roll to the door to retrieve the junk food he had delivered. Unbelievable!

I think the administrator had others who actually did leave when he tried to ban forbidden foods.

Atkid, I hope you find it online. It's really worth watching. Let me know what you find out, okay? I don't want to miss it the next time it comes on!

I have watched several episodes of the show. I find myself very sad and crying before the end of every episode. I am so thankful I am still mobile and can participate in my own life. Those people deserve much love and help.
