  • I-Pod questions

    Hello,

I'm thinking of buying an i-pod shuffle to use for treadmill running and on hols. This is a Richt approved purchase

I have a couple of questions I wondered if anyone could answer - sorry for techno-denseness!

    - Do I have to use i-tunes to put songs on or can I use my laptop to put cds I already own on there?
    - Also how are they charged? Via a laptop? Because that won't be great on hols...because I won't have one.

    Any thoughts?

I think you have to use Itunes, but you just import them from your hard drive - really really easy!!

you can still use your CDs though, just transfer them all on to i-tunes!!

charging, you'll need to buy an adapter, which i think must be bought seperately,

but ya know, this is all guessing cos ive never used one, lmao

Ok - I think I get that! I have done this before with a hewlitt packard one.

Also can ou use other headphones or only their ones? I have trouble with earphones staying in usually...but their in ear ones are a bit pricey.

I bought different ear phones - any will work in it - or even small speakers if you want "room" music!!

            Thanks for the info.

I've been think whether a shuffle will be big enough - how many songs do you have on your ipods? If I go up to nano is twice the price, but twice the songs also (up to 500).

            Am dithering massively...

You seem to have been given all of the advice you needed. The iPod shuffle is perfect for running (as I mentioned to you on Sunday).

Let me put in my 2 cents worth. I have a IPOD mini (predecessor to the nano.) It costs twice as much, but SOOOOOOOOOOO worth it. On the IPOD Shuffle, you can't make your own playlists. I LIVE for my playlists...I have elliptical playlists, running playlists, cooldown playlists, floor exercise playlists...and so on and so forth. I had considered the shuffle, but when I saw I could not choose the order of my songs, I changed my mind. So this is how I feel about it...go with the NANO! Enjoy!

I can fit around 180 ish songs onto my shuffle which is more than enough I woulkd have thought.

I bought mine for 2 reasons

                  1) it had to have a shuffle, so I didnt know what was next.

                  2) It had to be a clip on, as I didnt want one of those ipods that you see strapped to peoples arms.

I have an ipod mini, shuffle and nano!!! lol I just keep upgrading!!

The best by far is the nano!! As guekjian said you can create playlists to suit your mood! I have one for jogging/treadmill, one for cool down!!! etc... but as Rich said the only down point is no clip!! I've had mine fall off the step machine before now!!!

I also use itunes for just listening to my songs on my computer too! its quite a good little program once you get used to it - you can burn cd's from it too!

Thanks you guys - still not sure..

Does the nano have a shuffle function? That is a must for me.

As for the nano not having a clip, I'll just stash it in my bra if I get that one

I have the Nano. It does shuffle songs, you can create your own playlists, and import your own CD's. You can also (if you choose) get the Nike +iPod thing that times your runs and distance and mileage and time and pace and all sorts of other cool stuff.

The nano has to use the arm band instead of being clip on, but I wouldn't trade it for the world!! it's small and light weight, you can buy other ear buds, you can also buy accessories for it that the shuffle doesn't have, like an FM transmitter so that you can listen to radio on your Ipod...and a transmitter/charger for your car so you can listen to your iPod through your car (or home) stereo. You can download audio books to listen to, and podcasts, and all sorts of fun stuff.

I've got the 4gig nano and have downloaded bunches of songs from Itunes, plus imported a bunch of my own CD's and haven't even used a quarter of the capacity. So, if you are trying to save some $$ a 2gig would do well for you.

                            Hey thanks Joy,

Am really errmmmming about this! Does anyone know how much space an average audio book takes up - itunes doesn't say weirdly.
