So what should I do with the pencils?

Recently a teacher died at the school where my wife works. The teacher left 3 gross of pencils with her name on them saying things like happy birthday from Ms XXXX or Seasons Greetings from Ms XXXX. My wife is now in charge of doing something with the pencils so naturally she wants me to find them a home away from the school so there will be no problems like grieving people wondering why her pencils are still circulating.

My suggestion was to put them out with a note saying, "If you would like a memento of Ms XXXX please take some." The wife does not like that Idea for the above reason. I think that is just silly but who knows.

My other Idea is to call up a school a 50 or so miles away, tell them the story and see if they could let needy kids have them. I also like that Idea.

My wife kind of likes the idea but she wants me to find a teacher named Ms XXXX and somehow get the pencils to her. I think that is just morbid so it is going in the dumpster.

Another idea is to put them in a dumpster but when I think about doing that I worry that it might get me sent straight to ****.

Anyone else have any bright ideas, I have been staring at the pencils for about three days and it is really starting to bother me.

Sorry I don't post more, I am a low manintenace low carber as far as problems.

Give them to Goodwill or a recreation center.

I would donate them to a needy school, after-school program, educational center, etc. You'd be surprised how expensive pencils can be for a school or organization that has a lot of students. If you're worried about seeming morbid, give them to a school far away, where the teacher would not have been known. I think the worst thing you could do is throw them away.

I agree...give them to another school, afterschool program, or tutoring place where they can be used.

Thanks guys, I found a Christian school 13 miles away that had no problem taking them and it only cost me twenty dollars. Not really, they had a donation jar so I hit it just to make sure I was doing the right thing.
