    One of the UKs biggest lenders on property has had to be rescued by the Bank of England.

    Building Societies are like Banks - holding savers money and lending to others - mostly for mortgages on their homes.

    This problem seems to be related to that in the US.

    Sounds familiar. I'm on the fence on how stringent lenders should be to protect the investors, yet giving everyone who has the ability to repay the opportunity to be home owners.

      In UK the Building Society is rather different to a bank, and has an interesting history.
