Not speaking of ice is cooler water denser then warm water.
EX if you shot a bullet into a lake that was 35*f would it go the same distance as if the water was 150*f

    Re: Science Qustion

I would say the bullet would go a shorter distance, because as water becomes cooler it expands and this would slow the bullet down to some point.

Had a good laugh once I re-read the question and saw my answer!

          Lauren-
I have no idea, but I think that 'Mythbusters' did an episode on what happens to bullets when you shoot them into water. I don't think that they adjusted the temp. though. Why, anyway....are you planning on going fishing when the weather changes? he-he.

Haha! I totally misread the question!!! So I change my answer to: I don't know.

                Re: Science Qustion

Water, thank goodness, is one of the only known substances to expand when it goes into crystalline form (ice). However, like pretty much everything else, it becomes more and more dense as it gets colder. The molecules lose energy, move slower, and bounce off each other with less force allowing them to draw closer and closer together. Logically, a bullet should go less far and more slowly through cold water. If ice were denser than cold water (it is not), life would not exist on this planet, or would only just barely.
