As someone who has struggled with weight her whole entire life (my mom started it...I was one of those very underweight premie babies and my mom had strict instructions to "fatten me up"!)
anyway....I digressed....my father was king of reverse psychology. He thought that if he called me names to mock my weight, I'd want to change and lose the weight. I ended up with a wretched self image and believed all the things he said.
So, I decided when I had daughters (two of them) I would not ever give them reason to have self-image issues since the media and society do enough of that. When I've been dieting, I explain it to them that I've decided to eat healthy instead of diet so it didn't plant this evil seed in their minds about dieting.
My youngest, who will be the death of me I'm almost positive, is 7 yrs old (going on 37) and she got a little confused with the word "carbs" when we were at the grocery store. She had wandered off to one end of the crowded aisle while I was at the other. I was searching for a decent pita bread and she was "helping". In her too-loud-for comfort voice, she said..."Mom, how many CRABS do you have?"
Niiiice.
