im so happy to know that all of you are doing OK... its been a truly rough week! i was finally allowed to go back to work in Poway today! it wasnt bad... a little smokie smelling, but not bad... my friend who lives in Rancho Bernardo was let back in last night... her house is still standing, just black and full of ashes... 1 of her neighbors passed away from all the commotion... she had been sick and this just didnt help... MOST of my co-workers showed up today, but there are still a few that i didnt see yet... and the supervisors say ITS NOT UP FOR DISCUSSION... why not i say? these people are my friends... but i guess they have to keep closed lipped... anyways... IM GLAD YOUR ALL OK!

Well, up here in Escondido, the smell of smoke is everywhere, but the sky was clearing by mid-morning. When I would look toward the hills (on several sides) I could not see any billows of smoke or flame, and that includes in the direction of Valley Center and Lake Wohlford. But I hear that the Pachooma fire (Palomar) is still raging north of here.

I'm betting, Liz, that you'll be allowed home tomorrow. I'm thinking of unpacking the car.

Teachers have to report back to work on Monday but school won't start for students until Tuesday.

I'm glad we are safe, and that we are able to care for those who fared less well. And about doggie boyfriends - man, I hope you have "the talk" with her!

Home again, home again, gigety gig!
We're home!!!!! Yeah!
There are still fires burning, just not near us now.
Will never complain again!!!!
Well, that won't last! but I am very very very thankful! and so happy to be in our home again! Now I can unpack from London, do laundry and get back to 'normal' whatever that is.
My son will be out of school for the rest of the week at least. No football this week. Guess they'll have to make it up later.
Well, lots of stories at work today. One doctor's husband hiked from the 15 all the way to their house in Ramona in order to feed and water their pets... he kept jumping into gulleys to hide from the authorities!!!! I think that's crazy! It was burnt the entire way! He could have hit a hot spot! but he made it and thinks that because of that his pets survived, so more power to him I guess. I'd never let my dh do that! (like I could stop him!)
We can see Palomar Mountain from here! It still looks like a pretty huge fire. (but it's far away!) Oh, I drove through RB on way to work... at least just the freeway part, it looks aweful! So weird how the fire jumped around the neighborhoods and totally missed some houses and got others... Aftermath of fire is extremely ugly. All in all though, it's amazing how many were spared.

I just heard on the news that they found 4 more bodies bringing the total up to 12 and that the fires were getting worse

but if you're back home are they not getting worse?

Hi Emma,
honestly, haven't watched the news in 18 hours... just got sick of all the bad news so turned it off. I hope it's not worse, it seems better in my world... less smoke etc... I think it's moving farther away is all towards the country/mountains... and since it's so wild out there, it is more difficult to fight. There are soooo many fires, it's hard for me to keep them all straight. Certainly if the wind picks up it could get worse. I just turned on CNN... they are showing old footage and old news... typical hype the media does to create stories... It's 2am and dark, they're showing footage like it's happening now, but that's impossible as it's during daylight hours and it's night time here!!!!
The freeways are all open, but not all the roads. I passed some police guarding roads on way home. Still a million firefighters are camped out. I love those boys. Gotta make them something to say thanks... food.

Woo hoo, Liz! SOOO glad you're allowed back up there!

From what I'm hearing and seeing this morning, the witch fire, which is what is up here, is NOT worse. No increase in acreage burned over night. However, it has finally merged with the Poomacha fire up north, and that's probably not good. But I wouldn't say the fires in general are worse - they're letting everyone go home,and are moving the evacuation center at Qualcom stadium over to the Del Mar Fairgrounds on the coast, which will be more permanent.

I haven't been outside yet today, but it looks pretty smokey still.

Good morning!!!!
I'm looking out my window towards the west and I see blue sky for the first time in days!!!!
Yes, I think things are definately better in the most populated areas, but still bad in remote and difficult to accesss areas. Definately need to continue to pray for the firefighters, and people still affected. They're saying full containment won't come until the first part of November.
